I think what you're talking about is a new plenum. The cost is around $500. However, you can buy a plenum spacer for half the price and get almost the same results. For the 350Z, these are the best bang for the buck mod.
Here's the basic history of the plenum. The plenum is the where the intake is connected to. If you look at it from the side, you can see that its taller in the rear and shorter in the front. The reason for this is to accomodate the strut bar. This design however restricts airflow where it is narrow.
You can now buy a new plenum (APS Tall boy, Crawford V1 are a few) which corrects this problem. You WILL noticed an improvement in HP but you can no longer use any strut bar which will replace the OEM struct bar's position.
Crawford and a few other places sells replacement strut bar which goes in front of the plenum.
Now, you can also buy spacers for about $250. Spacers are what they sound like, they don't replace the stock plenum, just aid in making it taller. Spacers come in two main size. The smallest has less hp/tq gains but allows for the fitment of the OEM strutbar, where as the larger size doesn't but has better hp/tq gains.
I left out alot of other information but this is the basic concept of the plenum. If you do a search you will find tons of threads and articles written about this. SportsZmagazine also did a spacer/plenum shoot out in their last issue.
Good luck.
