Default Question for 5AT owners:

How often do you drive using the manual shift mode?

I'm about 50/50, but always switch to Auto when in a playground or busy parking lot (keep both hands on the wheel... damn kids run AT my car). Same for everyone else?

For me it's directly related to the traffic. If traffic is light and I've got an empty road I get to drive a bit more aggressively and use the tiptronic. If traffic is rotten it's auto. Also when in traffic and I'm on the cell phone (which is rare) I leave it in auto so I have one hand for the wheel.

Also one thing how high does ur auto trans let u guys shift at cuz i can take mine up to 7,000 rpms until it hits the red line. But thats only in tiptronic mode. It also might be because of my reflash.

I'd say 50-50.

Mostly manual when on the streets. Also on freeway on/off-ramps. But once up to speed on freeway, just slam it into auto mode.

Pretty great system!

To be honnest with you.....

I drive in AT even while tracking her, Even if I'm used to driving MT (Rally'd my Suby for a few years back in the early 2000's....).
With the on the fly type gear box offered in the G (I would assume its the same in a Z) I realy do feel that the computer has the edge on me (the driver).... the 'box' (as it shall be known) feels a tad sluggish, (a .75 sec lag if you will) during up/down shifts...
This is the first AT I've ever owned, and I'm honnestly quite impressed. As long as the driver has some basic driver education, it just requires more 'feel' with the throttle....
Take it from a MT die-hard who's realised that you can acheive almost the same level of driver input, but with an AT. IMO, It takes more skill/finness (sp) from the average driver to 'keep-up' with a AT than a MT.

On the streets I usually just leave it in auto-mode. If I hit an open area or just want to have fun I'll use manual-mode. If I'm looking for the best performance I'll stick it back into auto-mode. I'm not a bad MT driver but I also know that I don't have Jeff Gordon shifting skills. For performance, auto-mode shifts better than I can in most cases (90%+ of the time).

when in manu-mode doesnt that increase the redline? Im pretty sure that when im in manu-mode i can go pass the shiftpoint that it shifts at as if it was in full automode.

Auto-Mode almost always. It's actually faster than triptronic.

BTW, lets not kid ourselves. We bought an automatic. Put it in D and enjoy.

I bet the manual guys are biting their tongue and holding back some really nasty comments right aobut now! lol

But on a more serious note, you guys don't think your going to trash your tranny faster by using that manuel mode too often? Say in like a year or 2?

And won't the car just redline in auto mode if you just floor it all the way through all the gears??

Peace!
