Default 6MT Reliability?

I keep reading about people with problems with there manual Z's. Can I hear some posts from people who have had problem free manual transmissions. I'm looking very hard into buying a Z, I want a manual not an automatic but if they are nothing but problems for most people I'll be forced to keep my GSX.

3/03 6m/t original owner...all six gears shift like a hot knife through butter with 19K miles so far...and i think there are thousands of original Z owners with hardly any problems out there.

It always seems to be problems with the Syncros. Another question, Do any of you guys use aftermarket trannyfluid such as BG SnycroShift 2?

hahha I have 2500 miles and my trans sucks ***. In neutral it makes horrible noise, in first gear it makes a loud metal to metal noise and the only thing the dealer told me was "there is a problem but you should call nissan of north america because they dont have a fix for it yet". I'm gonna back and visit them with my trusty lawyer next weekend.

maybe this problem..

https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/39553-post-here-only-if-you-have-had-your-tranny-replaced.html

not that I would let this keep you from getting a Z. the tranny issue seems to be hit and miss. I'm at 24k and I've got a 3rd gear grind so I'm faced with the dauting task of trying to get the dealer to replace it. however, with the most recent version of the trans I believe whatever the problem is, has been addressed. I would imagine the 06 Z's have that new trans so you shouldn't have the problem.

2004.5 here. 25k miles 2nd gear used to grind occasionally after leaving first under hard acceleration but it doesn't do it anymore. I think it just needed more time to get broke in. Works fine now. I think the gearbox could use some help though.

Mine was hard to find 5th and 6th. So I installed a short shifter to see if that would improve things. It was so noisy so I had to put the stock one back in. When I lined up the 5th and 6th speed guard on the factory shifter the way it was supposed to be, my shifting problems to 5th and 6th went away. So, in my case, an adjustment is all that was needed. Now it shifts like a hot knife through butter.

I have a 2004 350z Roadster with the 6mt and a 2003.5 G35 sedan with 6mt (they use the same transmission) and I have yet to have any problems with either cars transmission

I think a lot of people have problems is because they drive hard (such as racing be it illegal or legit) and are hard on the tranny. Even so the transmission should still hold up better under the abuse then it has...

If your fairly easy on your car you shouldnt have any problems with the transmission.
