Question The pull of a 350Z after 4K RPMs?

So today I've been driving with a bit of a lead foot. Ok fine..I won't lie..I've been driving with a lead foot whenever I get the opportunity but more so today than before.

Anyways...so here is my question. I know the 350Z has a pretty good pull but I am still breaking the engine so I keep my shifts at or below 4K. Once I break-in the engine....will I feel a big difference in the pulling power in the higher RPM range? Basically I don't wanna be expecting some huge rush and be disappointed. I know the Z shines in the high end but just wanted some quick facts/opinions before I experience it myself. I personally enjoy how it pulls already!

Absolutely! (At least with CAI and cat back exhaust). But your gas mileage will plummet. If I shift at 3000rpm even the grandmas beat me off the line.

To be honest, the first 1200 miles I was wondering the same thing. I thought my car was slower than my old 300zxt. Finally, after the 1200 mile break in I stomped on it. OMG !!!! this brick flys !!!! Then after 5K Miles I started to rev the heck out of it in the mountains. Again, OMFG !!! I'm Mario Andretti Lol !!!

You gonna love it. :-}

Punched my car in three to 7K today ...... then the wife squealed .... I went to pull for 4th and missed on purpose if you know what I mean lol ..... I love this car it brings the thrill back into driving.

I still can't believe I own such a great car!

Look at the dyno charts posted by various members. What happens to torque after 4,000 rpm?

So you've never did any incursions in the upper revs?

You should. Once the engine and tranny are warm, get some lower gears accellerations above 4000rpm. Not holding in there, juste to push it a bit more each time. Raise your revs 500rpm every 200 miles or so.

Going from "easy never above 4000rpm" to "7000rpm bump of the limiter" is not a good thing.

LOL...thanks for all the replies. Yeah..I am really slow breaking the car in since its my weekend driver...but don't get me wrong, I think I will break her in sooner than anticipated.

Kolia, I like the point you made. I think I will increase the rpm a bit ever 200 miles or so.

Yes, for god's sake break it in. The pull after 4000 is amazing. I've had my Z for over a year and I STILL am amazed at the jerk it gives. I don't know what I'll do when I go F/I

Our Z motor is a "torque monster" compared to my previous cars...

With min of 240 fp of torque at 2400 rpm to max of 274 fp at 4800 rpm...

Even at hp peak of 6200 rpm torgue is still 240 fp...

I have 6500 miles on mine after a careful "break-in", then increasing the
demands on the motor gradually thru the next few thousand miles (as noted
above in "Koila" thread).

Now I can give it quick deep throttle in any gear above 3000 rpm...the car
just LEAPS forward, taking the passenger's breath away...and the sound is
wonderful!

To bring another perspective to this, if your coming from a VTEC engine or similar, you may find the 3-6K dissapointing, only because our power curve is so flat and we have tons of tourqe. You won't feel a kick at say 4K-6K like you would in an S2K. But when you look at the speedo and shift through the gears, you will NOT be dissapointed. The car is fast.

Mine does push significantly harder from 4500rpm (revup engine).

Enough to break traction on occasion...

Yeah the car pushes hard all through the rpms (I usually feel 3000-5000rpms)from what I feel. As of right now I'm not trying to figure out the best point to shift at when "drag racing" the car. I mean the car pulls tuff as h311 but both tq and hp have a maximum or I guess you would say peak shifting point and after that point the power goes down. I shifted at 6600rpms but I noticed last night I let it go a little bit further. Still felt like I was still getting great power.
