between 03 and 04? or not? i have heard to many stories of bad trannys in the 03, and trust me i am used to it, i drive a wrx right now, and we are known for having glass trannys

It doesn't go by model year it goes by trans series. 009 is the latest revision. The synchros are the issue. If your buying a car look at the trans #. The trany is warrantied for 6 years 60,000 mi. So just get it replaced under warranty. I have a #008 and I have no issues with the synchros.

Where would that transmission number be located on the transmission? In a openly visible area?

 

+1 Is it on the vin plate under the hood?
