This guy certainly doesn't think so. I lack the mechanical knowledge to know whether his statements are true. Can anyone assert his statements?

I chose to ignore the break in procedure.
The first night I got the car I played follow the leader with my friend in his s2000 for at least an hour keeping the car above 4k the entire time. Who knows if it is going to effect the car down the road.
I honestly have never kept a car longer the 3-4 years so it doesn't make a difference to me if it breaks down at 100k miles instead of 125k.

I like to think of it as the way I got to know my Z. The thought that the manufacturer believes it's necessary kept me below 4K but at the same time I got familiar with the clutch, shifter and sterring. Now that I'm past that "magic number" I feel pretty good about pushing the car.
As a side note the rev indicator kept my son-in-law from redlining it when I let him drive. He built up and maintains his 69 Dart 383 plus he's a pretty good driver with a lead foot, he would have went for it without the blinking light. He thought I said it would shut the engine down and I forgot to tell him different.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Enjoy the breakin time! Plenty of time later to race.
