I just got mine replaced, 2004 @ 38,000 miles. Just curious how many others have done the same.

I bought my car 8 months ago and it had 19K mi and the 5th gear syncro was shot. Took the car stright to infiniti, got myself a loaner and 4 days later had a brand new $2500 tranny all under factory warrany.

I've had this tranny now for a good 12k miles and its been really good. I hardly ever miss a shift and it holds the 367whp from the Greddy kit beautifully.

twice under warranty. 2nd one was for good measure and to have the most up-to-date revision.

was this done while the car had FI? if so did you have to fight to get the tranny covered?

I bought my Z about 5 months ago and had the tranny replaced recently at 50K, nothing was wrong with it just better to be safe then sorry before my warranty ran out. I took it to the dealer and made some bogus complaint, they confirmed it was damaged and replaced it all for free, lol! How can you really tell if its messed up just by driving it around anyway, J/C?

Got mine replaced around 35K and haven't had a problem with it really and I'm close to 60K. I started getting a grind going into second but it went away after changing to Redline tranny oil.

Anyone else get a loaner while getting their transmission replaced? My dealership didn't offer it. So I borrowed my friends s2k for a few days. Needless to say, im glad to have my Z back.

I have a noob question. If my second gear grinds, is that a tranny problem? Is the warrantee for transmission up 5 year/50000 miles (mine is an 03 with 21k miles)? Does second gear grinding have anything to do with or damages the clutch?

Thanks everyone.

I too sometimes have the second gear grind. Should I replace the tranny?

Yes done while I had FI, no fighting because the problem has nothing to do with the power your car makes. The synchros are bad and Nissan knows it. I ust called and told the service manager he ordered a new one and when it arrived they called me to come in a they replaced it.

first off, to those with the 2nd gear grind I would definately take it in to get replaced.

secondly I wonder if this issue is large enough that nissan should really be doing a recall, but won't because of the cost and are basically just playing the numbers. I mean its not a safety issue so why would they voluntarily do a recall right? just play the odds that the majority of Z/G owners won't develop the problem till after warranty or won't bring their car in for whatever reason. I mean they don't even have any TSB out about the trans problems that I know of. and I'd bet they've had a lot more trans problems/issues than some of the other TSB's they've put out.
