Custom Grills and Ditching the spare tire
Trying figure out how many people are getting rid of the spare tire. I have noticed several people have removed them to make room for a sub, etc. What are your plans if you should have a flat. Did you buy some type of roadside assistance?
Custom grills. From what I see on these there is no way to get to the tow hook. Is this the case or is there something built in that allows for tow hook access. If you do have a towing need what will you do? I have been told the only way to transport the Z was via a flatbed. Would you have to remove the grill?

I kept my spare tire, to be honest, the 40lbs it could MAYBE weigh(thats probably high, jack and spare are probably more around 30lbs) could save me like how much performance? I just dont see it. now if you put something else there, thats cool, but to just lose 40lbs for road driving, I dont see the application.
so anyway, obviously I kept my spare, Ill remove it when I have a good reason, like track day or something.

I've driven on one of the little spares for 300 miles before, with no problems. In fact, a few years ago, there was some publicity where they put one on a promotional vehicle following that "Lap of America" deal, and drove it the whole several thousand mile trip.
I've not only kept my spare, but I've put my jumper cables in on top of it. For daily driving, I'll take the weight to be a bit more comfortable with my chances of getting stranded

Officially is it a temporary or full spare though? I know those temporary ones last longer, but officially what is it

First of all this is dangerous for you and others around you. Second, all I have to say is GHETTO. Dude - how lazy do you have to be to not fix a flat? Drop it off at Discount Tire and they will fix it for free!!
I hydroplaned a car into a guardrail over a weekend 200+ miles from home. I put the spare on, went to my destination, and drove back home the following day. The wheel was ruined.
So, put your brain in gear before making dumb comments. The tires are rated to do just what I did. I didn't drive at excessive speeds, etc.

I think you are asking to be stranded if you don't carry a spare. A sidewall cut or a damaged wheel will leave you stranded. I used to think that all you needed was a can of fix a flat was all you needed until I incurred a flat on the way to Havasu (desert) and the tire had a sidewall cut. There I was in the middle of nowhere, 10 pm, no spare and the closest town was about 50 miles away.
There are other places I wouldn't want to be stranded, like Watts, Comptom, East LA, places where you don't want to mingle with the locals if you get my drift.
I carry a spare now.

but maybe if I had AAA I might consider ditching the tire, but AAA costs money, its quicker and safer and cheaper to just have the spare in the trunk.

I had tire "issues" with my last car (Honda) - lost 4 tires (all different) over it's lifetime. Anyway, not particularly important that it was that many.
First time: I-8, the middle of nowhere Arizona. No cell phone coverage (this was like 7 years ago)...changed to donut spare, drove like 40 mph to the next town to get fixed.
Second time: driving my mom to the airport, tire go boom. Needed to get it fixed fast, changed to donut spare, dropped mom off, drove carefully home, fixed tire next day.
Third time: driving to out of town meeting, needed to get fixed fast, changed to donut spare. I ended up missing the meeting because there was no way I was gonna drive into LA and out again in rush hour traffic on the donut.
Fourth time: driving home from a friend's. Said screw it and walked home (I was close). Came back later to change to donut and get tire fixed.
<-- will always keep spare and jumpers in the car =)

Mr. 6kLaunch was the one stranded in the desert. Or are you thinking it's not safe anywhere in Nashville? I don't get it.WayneTN
He called me Ghetto for driving from Crossville to Knoxville then back to Nashville on a spare, after I hydroplaned 3 years ago and ruined a wheel on a Saturday afternoon.
He must not have liked it when I called it a stupid statement when he didn't know the facts.
