Just curious.

I use Castrol Syntec. The commercial got to me I guess..."A manual can say what your car might do, Castrol Syntec will let your car do what it wants to do!"...or something like that. A little pricey, but my Z is worth it!

Royal Purple, Mobile 1 and Redline are all great brands. RP seems to be one of best when it comes to horsepower gains.

+1 on #2. Even though I use Redline in my Maxima's tranny, I hadn't heard of Royal Purple until I read about it on these forums, and now plan on using that myself in Z's engine.

Castrol Syntec is the worst of all the synthetics. I run AMSOil and according to my oil analysis on engine wear...my motor couldn't be happier.

Castrol Syntec the worst? Oh ****, I'd better change it up. What's the deal with Royal Purple, why is it so good? Is it comparable to Mobil 1?

Nothing but Motul for my baby. Motul 300v for track and Motul Eco-Energy or the max performance version for street use

I see you're all using synthetic oil, why? Synthetics usually prolong oil changes, which is generally why people use synthetics other than racing. I ask because while the car is under warranty wouldn't you still have to change the oil as per required maint? Or do you change the oil as maint requires and just suck up the cost as treating your Z.

is there any truth to the following statement: "once you go with synthetic, you can not go back to regular oil"?

I don't know about the brand, but I'm sure it'll be the cheapest oil their money can buy...

no... What will happen if you go to a synthetic over a dino oil, especially after there has been some mileage put on, is the first sysnthetic oil you put in will get really dirty very quickly. This is because it has better detergents engineered in that help remove deposits. Also I laugh when people go out and spend $50 on synthetic oil just to change it every 3k miles or even less... Synthetics are made to hold up under much worse conditions and will not break down as fast as convential oils. Even convential oils will still be in good shape after 5k miles. I use royal purple since its a true synthetic, like motul, amsoil ect. and not a synthetic based on regular oil, and I put atleast 5k miles on between changes without a second thought. If you don't believe it, after 3k miles send an oil sample in and have it analyzed, and unless you have some serious issues with you engine the oil that you just dumped will come back with near perfect results for flash point ect...

I remember reading an article about a C5 corvette owner that ran moible 1 for 10k miles, he sent in a sample and the results showed the oil's characteristics were better than some fresh dino oil that the labs had tested.
