Default Brake Ducts Orange Reflectors.

Howdy from down under.

At the front of the Z is some big ugly Orange Reflectors.

They look like big Orange teeth. They should be White.

White teeth is a good look, orange teeth not so good.

They went to the trouble of Clear turn signals but they left the orange teeth.

So I am thinking WTF are these UGLY things.

They have to be Closed off Brake ducts.

So I'm going to rip out the Orange teeth.

I'm sure I saw a pic of a Euro one with them out.

So its off to the Dentist.

Is there ducting that comes with a Euro kit or something?

If not I'll get something made.

I had a Similar deal with My 540 and M5 BMW.

The 540 ducts were open, but the M5 (Faster car were closed) So I put the AA CAI with open egg rings on it and it comes with all the Factory 540 open ducts gear to give brake cooling as well. Appearently BMW marketing said that The Normal M5 owner was not an Enthusiast and they wouldn't get the larger brakes Warm enough, so they closed off the ducts.

I not only opened them up, but put in a 4 Wheel STOPTECH BBK from the states. From Dave Z.

Well Mark,

Response 1. I like the big orange teeth, they remind me of my girlfriend.

Response 2. Yep rip em out, dem has brake ducts under dare.

Response 3. If the mods not suggested by someone with at least 5,000,000 posts we ignore it.

Response 4. We don't drive our Z's fast enough or hard enough to warrant brake ducts. (Now come on, that has to invoke a response. I wouldn't take that. Bring on the Flames. The silence is killing me).

Fell free to choose your favourite response, or come up with your own. LOL

Haha, lonely thread Mark. My 2 cents says "Yes, orange slits up front is fugly". I don't know how I feel about converting to cooling ducts though. I do like the idea, a lot, but I don't know if the bumper cover will be rigid enough to handle that without causing any problems down the road. It should be, but I don't know. I am unaware of any off the shelf ducting for this application, but I will be watching this thread to see what you find. Unfortunately for me, I think getting rid of those reflectors means potential tickets and the inability to pass annual safety inspection, but I am going to double-check that.

You Aussies are the funniest !

Well mate, the yellow teeths are mandatory reflectors in many countries. Helps figure out the front from the rear of the car when you can barely walk...

Brake ducts are a good idea. But IMO, you would have to fabricate some form of scoop, changing the teeths into nostrils I guess, since the last time a checked, an airflow going normal to an opening had a vacuum effect on that opening. See Bernouilli and friends for details.

Routing the air ducts to the front grill would be better. Punch 2 holes in the sides where the air flow is now blocked so you don't rob cool air from the radiator.

Send pictures

I love the Foster Girls at the GPs...

Cool idea....do you plan to track the car? If not, I don't think they will add much of a benefit for street driving. You can get white replacement reflectors from Performance Nissan or knockoffs from ebay for cheap.

as said, i doubt you will get ANY airflow there to warrant doing it, there are better places to do brake ducts...

Houston we have a confirmed signal.

Reading you loud and clear, communications lines now open.

Thanks for the responses. Mikead99, no other car in OZ has reflectors like this.

I have seen Euro shots where there was nothing. So I figure they were factory ducts.

Hey Kolia, we have Koala's in OZ. LOL I like the nostrils idea. I have already scoped out the black closed off area to the left and right of the radiator.

Hey Maxpower (Wasn't that Homer Simpsons alter ego on an episode of the simpsons) Yes I will wander out to Qld raceway its just down the road from me.

Hey Joekool, I live out Ipswich way. 40Km West of BrisVegas. I bought the car from Metro Nissan On the North side (The Norris Motor Group Winsor).

Pick it up Monday. Houston we have 2 days and counting to launch of the Z, copy.

MIB out.
