I was wondering how many miles you get off a full tank. I used to get around 280 before my empty light would come on but during the last two fill ups it would come on at around 230. What happened to those extra 50 miles? My avg miles per gallon has not gone down either (18.1 -18.2 mpg). Also my next oil change is at 6,900 miles and I'm at 6,400. I always put in 91 octane, so what could be the problem?
I know there was a fuel gauge/level issue in the 2003s, but I'm not sure if that also happened in the later models. Do you have a more difficult time filling up or anything? I get about 21-23MPG in mixed driving unless I drive really hard.
That is only calculated. It depends on how you drive. I took a video to show my coworker my mpg at ~70. 27mpg but he didnt believe me. Said my comp needed to be calibrated. He drove a Mustang.
Goin down a hill it can read as high as 45-50 mpg. Up hill it drops to about 13 mpg.

If your mileage seems to be decreasing then you're probably changing your dirving habits and not noticing. More stoplights, heavier acceleration to pass people, different roads....they all add up.
Is there a way to reset the ECU to record different driving habits than what is stored in memory now? I have heard that taking the terminal off the battery for several hours may cause the ECU to reset. What do you guys think?
This question is so worked over. It depends on how and where you drive. I consistantly get 27mpg. My commute is a steady 72mph for hundreds of miles at times. I have even broken the 30mpg mark now a couple of times on straight flat roads at the 72mph speed. If you go faster it's worse, if you go slower it's worse. That's my car. I have Pop charger, Iridium plugs, and syn oil. All that helps a little. Maybe 1.5mpg.
If I drive the Z like my other cars/trucks I get 24-25mpg around town and freeway mixed driving.
If I start stomping on it. It will drop to as low as 18mpg on one tank. If you are racing around the gas mileage will be around 20mpg. In my Firebird with V8that would be 15mpg. I also get 28.5mpg out of my Firebird on the freeway with .50 overdrive unit. I got 29mpg once but, have never been able to duplicate that.
I actually thought I could get 32mpg out of the 350Z when I bought it. Not !! What was I thinking? 300HP 32mpg. Not !!!
My old 300ZXT the best I was able to get was a 27.5mpg. Long straight flat road. 200HP Turbo.
My 280ZX the best I ever got was 27mpg. Most of the time it was around 23mpg.
You see I love the Z because it is a fast car, is reliable, and get great gas mileage. Unlike my SUV or V8's this thing sips gas for the work week.
I guess I should mention that me Pathfinder with the VQ motor only gets 17-20mpg. It has never seen anything better than 20mpg. That's what a 4WD and 4500lbs will do to your gas mileage. Still respectable for a 255HP SUV with the heart of a Z.
It helps if you use the fewest steering inputs and let the car slowly move from one side of the lane to the other and then correct. Instead of a bunch of micro corrections.
I'll bet I could get better mileage in the 350Z if had cruise control. I just never figured I would be using it as much for long trips because of the space it doesn't have in the hatch. Not !! The only time I use the cruise control is if I am going for the very best mileage. Which isn't really that often after I have set the baseline. Then I check it every couple of months. I always check the air filter, oil, tire pressure and use high grade gas. 91oct is the only thing available to me. I did use 100 oct in her once and see really liked it. However, I didn't do a mileage check with that gas in her. I'll beat it would have been in the teens the way I was driving that week. Lol !!!
I love to drive this car everywhere I can.
So, the Pathfinder, Firebird, Motorhome sit in the driveway a lot these days.
Edit - For kicks sake I just went out to check the mileage readings. I have been doing variable driving. Got stuck in 45mins of creeping traffic going to SF across the Bay Bridge and I am showing 388 DTE and 25.6mpg with 92miles on the OD right now. This is actually the worst traffic I have driven her in so far. It was down to under 2mph for that 45minutes. So when I started the trip I had a DTE of 572 right away going 72mph on the freeway. That was when it was showing a 29mpg + on the computer and it wasn't downhill.

I was getting as high as 29 mpg with the intake mods but then I changed the fronts to 245's and lost 5mpg! Another funny thing is, after the mods, my speedo seems to be increasing- perhaps my speedo is off and/or needs to be recalibrated?
