Default Water Pump Lubricator/anti-rust Fluids

I had a friend ask me if I was using any Water Pump Lubricator/Anti-Rust Fluids like Prestone's something or other.

I had to say no, as I have never heard of this stuff. Can anyone give me any info? Is this actually necessary/helpful? Worthwhile at all?

This is covered in the manual. Nissan has already put chemicals in the coolant to inhibit rust and such. However, conservatively you should flush your coolant system every 24,000 miles or 2 years. It's the most neglected maintenance item. Nissan dealers and well equipped shops have a special machine.

Thank you for the response. I did notice the portion in the manual but was just curious if addatives over and above what Nissan originally puts in would be helpful or even wise.

Actually there is an additive that some have used. It's called WaterWetter (sic). I believe it's a lubricant for the pump. Might try doing a search. I know it's been mentioned here.

Default Redline waterwetter

I've used it in racecars before and it does offer some anti-corrosive and lubricating properties. But waterwetter primarily benefits cars that need additional cooling, which the 350Z does not. Your standard antifreeze/distilled water mix already offers lubricant/anti-rust properties.

Default re Redline

It's primarily advertised for Mercedes . I tried it in my Mercedes and it made no difference whatsoever ! Save your money !

If you want, you can add Prestone® Cooling System Treatment for added protection. It certainly won't harm anything.
