Last week at the local autoX I was talking with a guy who had a small trailer to tow his tires & tools/air/etc. He had a custom hitch and said (assuming I remember right, which is not guaranteed ) that he'd had it tied into the frame where a couple of tie downs had been .... does this make sense? Are there tie down hooks on the rear frame?

Like everyone else locally he uses a home-modified utility trailer from Harbor Freight. Measures about 40x40.

Hope some of this helps.

Smile custom hitches

thanks guys. i appreciate some ideas rather than just some wise comments.like i said i have been told a hitch can be done,i just want something that looks asgood as possible.seems like the roof is small for a rack.i did see tha part about towing in the manual.i thought it might be generic to all nissans, but every thing else pertains to the z.

I also need a hitch installed to pull my Sea Doo to and from the lake. I wont be using it to drop it in the water, just to get it there. .But I have been told that this is not going to happen because of the muffler setup.

Smile hitch

I just picked up our brickyard with the hitch attached. It was a custom job and cost 236 dollars. It looks good, well as good as a hitch can look.So it can be done.He said it took most of the day.We like to travel and take our bikes along,so it was either a hitch or forget about biking. We bought the z to drive and enjoy not just to look at.Thats fun too.I dont have a digital camera or would post pictures. So any one wanting one dont be told its not possible. Good luck.

Cool and congrats on the new ride. I never thought this thread would get this many hits. I still have to get a hitch on my new pickup and get up early for work, and back home, to help the neighbor load his two Harleys on the trailer for the ride to Myrtle tomorrow. Have fun

Where exactly does your hitch mount? Since we cannot see pics are you able to explain a bit? I am still needing a hitch but I want to make sure it is well hidden and does not stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks

Is there anyway you could get me in contact with the guy who made the custom hitch? If he would be interested in making another he could probably make a couple bucks...

Its been a few months since the hitch issue has been discussed. Has anybody been successful at finding a hitch for the Z?

I found a website with pictures of a really cool hitch. The receiver is oriented vertically and is completely hidden between the plast bumper and muffler.

http://www.solo2.org/blogs/christoc/...1/28/1175.aspx

I e-mailed him. He doesn't have it installed on his own car, and he doesn't know the details. It almost looks like a kit that was adapted for use on the Z.

My Z was hit by a fire truck (the day before my first payment was due). I'll be getting it back from the dealer's shop soon. There are a few weld shops around me that I might try.

The tolerance are tight, but the pictures prove it can be done!

Nice find.. I wonder how much weight you could pull with a "vertical" hitch.

There are a few threads on this topic which take a considerable amount of time for us newbies. This is probably the best prior thread: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&pagenumber=1

Lateapex came up with a similar one and has measurements.

I don't think weight is too much of an issue, unless you plan on using your Z like it's a truck. I only plan on transporting bicycles for triathlons, so I'm not concerned. Lateapex suggested oversizing the hole to use a 5/8" pin instead of a 1/2", which seems like a good idea to me.

Default Curt 11493 Hitch for 2008 350z

I had the Curt 11493 hitch installed & wanted to add more photos that might help others. These are photos of the rebar/crash bar with hitch. I have the hitch to use for 1 bicycle. So far so good!

I know not everyone agrees with a hitch, but it makes me so happy! Had to visit a welder & body shop to get it done. Finished today 04/17/2025.

I did a similar setup, but hidden, so you cannot see the reciever when the hitch is not being used. Mostly for my bike rack as well.

I guess I'm thinking maybe a two seater shouldn't be pullin' a trailer, but my Corolla used to look great pulling the runabout. I might have to get used to the idea!
Put on a she hitch, not a he hitch. Wider in the hips and they fit OK.
