Angry My Trip to the Dealership..

Many have asked me, if I had done my recalls/TSB/warranty problems and how things went at the dealership. Well, here's the whole story. This is giong to be long so bear with me here.

So, back around March 25th, after reading about the Z's TSBs, recalls, and other problems fixable under warranty, I decided to take my Z in to a local dealership. There, I meet one of the "service advisors" and tell him about a list of problems that I have in my Z.

driver's side window not going up sometimes;
scratches and grease streaks on both driver and passenger side windows;
cd player skipping under cold weather;
fuel hose recall;
tire feathering;
and 6th gear scratching, sometimes 5th.

After I tell him what I want done to the Z, he tells me that I will have to wait a few days so they can order the necessary parts and receive them. He tells me to come back after they get the parts. Few days later, I get a call from the dealership saying that the all parts, except the transmission, is in and that I should bring my car over to get all my problems sorted out minus the transmission. So around 7:30AM of March 30th, I drive over to the dealership, drop my car off so they can fix the problems. They hand me a keys to a Sentra with a non-working stereo, which was OK because my car was going to come back with all the problems fixed except the transmission. At around 2:00PM the same day, I receive a call from my "serive advisor," telling me that my car was not worked on at all, because when they do the transmission work, they will have to take a few things down anyway, they were not going to do other work. So bascially, they just had my car for the whole day, (because I was in Dallas, unable to pick up my car until 5:00PM that day) doing whatever they felt like in it probably. I said "local dealership" before, but it's only local because my parent's house is in McKinney. I actually live in a different city, approximately 35 miles from the dealership. So, I drove 35 miles to go to the dealership, to get nothing fixed, receive a beaten Sentra, let the dealership have their way with my Z. After I went back to pick up my car, around 5:00PM, they told me to come back when the transmission gets in.

Transmission parts get in Saturday, April 1st. I told by "service advisor" that I will come back Tuesday, April 4th. So as promised, I drive yet another 35 miles back to McKinney and go back to the dealership. Again, same as before, I dropped my car off early in the morning, because I was told if I drop it off early in the morning, they will have EVERYTHING done by the time they close the next day. But as I leave, the "service advisor" tells me that I should probably come back Thursday, as he "didn't want to rush the technicians." I agreed that rushing will probably create more room for human error, so I agree to come back Thursday afternoon.

The longest 2 days of my life goes by and I, again, drive another 35 miles to the dealership. Actually, I was late, as I arrived around 3:00PM instead of around noon, like I had said. When I get to the dealership, I am informed that my car STILL isn't finished and that they are still working on it. The "service advisor" tells me that the technicians are still working on getting the window motor replaced and that my new windows are not even tinted. So, at this point I am pretty furious, as I was at an inconvenience to continously drive back and forth, wasting my time, putting mileage on my Z (by me and them), and wasting my gas (on both loaner Sentra and my Z). Here's the funny thing. When I asked the "service advisor" why the car had not been finished even though, the time promised for it to be done was actually the previous day. He says that replacing the transmission took quite a long time to do, and that he had to beg the technician to stay 2 extra hours so that it would be done, and that he paid that technician "out of [his] own pocket.I am pretty flabbergasted by his statement. But basically, I agree to wait yet another day to get my Z back. The "service advisor" promises me that everything will be done.

I drive another 35 miles to the dealership the next day, Friday, April 7th. To my surprise, I see my Z outside under the sun. I talk to my "service advisor" and he says that everything is done and works perfectly. Kind of skeptical, I inspect my Z. There was bubbles in my tint, which they told me would go away in 3 days and that it's normal because it was tinted only a couple of hours ago. I was pretty upset at this point, because they told me everything was going to be DONE, which included no bubbles in tint either.

Anyway, during my inspection, I found no external damage done to my car and the inside looked fine. So I get in my car to check out a few things to see if they messed with anything and then I turned my stereo on. Guess what I found? Nothing! All of my CDs (in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th slots) that were in there are gone. So I ask him about the whereabouts of my CDs. As I'm asking him, I find one in my car. So I ask for the other 3, to which he responds that he will ask the techinicians for them. A few minutes later, he comes back to tell me that that CD that I just found was the only one! Furious that I am, I demand to speak somebody else. This one gentleman comes over another few minutes later with my "service advisor" and tells me that there is a common problem with the stereos not being able to eject all the CDs. This is just too hilarious because, MY particular stereo was fine at ejecting CDs. It just didn't play them in cold weather. So, I ask why, at first, I was told that there were not 3 other CDs along with the 1 they ejected and that I was obviously mistaken, but now they aknowledge the fact that there were 4 CDs total and only 1 was able to eject, the one that I was currently playing. This is funny because, as I have mentioned, my CD player was able to eject all CDs with no problem, but not only that, they sent the CDs along with the CD player back to wherever it goes to. So now, I had to wait for my CDs to come back to the dealership, so they can give it back to me. I'm pretty pissed off at this point. So I tell them that I want my CDs back and that they need to notify me as soon as the CDs are returned and I decide to leave.

So I turn my car on, but I find yet another oddity. The clutch feels like an S2000 clutch. My clutch, before having any work done, was pretty stiff and hard to press in. Now, it was the exact opposite. It went in too effortlessly, providing no kick back to the driver. So I get my "service advisor" again, who brings a technician along with him. I ask the technician to try the clutch out. He starts the car and puts the car in gear, as he's inching along in gear, he almost stalls, because of this weird clutch. So, I go into the service section of the building where do all the work, and get the head technician. He tells me that the clutch and the transmission is fine, and that it's probably one of the best he's ever driven. The problem was that because I did not replace the pressure plate and the flywheel (i think [which would have cost me $1000+ so I told them to not replace those]), the clutch was a little bit different from what I was used to before the "fixed my car." Unsatisfied, but not wanting to deal with any of the people at the dealership, I leave.

As I am driving the 35 mile route back, I hear wind noise coming from both windows. Upon closer inspection, I find that neither of the windows had been installed properly, as in they don't tuck into the roofline as they should! What kind of a dealership takes care of their customers like this?

So again, I drive another 35 miles to the dealership the next day, Saturday, April 8th. I talk to a different person as my "service advisor" was not in that day. I tell him that I needed the windows to be fixed right at that moment within an hour, as I needed to go to a Z/G competition with a few other Z owners who are also on this forum. He talks to the general service manager, who says they'll do their best. They escort me to the waiting area.

As I'm waiting there, I overhear one of their customers complaining about the slow service at the dealership and how she had waited 30 extra minutes already. To this, another customer says that she had already waited an hour and a half extra. To this I chimed in, telling them that I had already waited 3 extra days and my car still wasn't done. The conversation ended there and the general service advisor comes up to me and asks "if [I] had a minute" to which I answer with "I guess."

So, we're walking into his office, because I figured he was going to apologize for everything and tell me what was happening to my Z. Then I see my Z coming from the entrance of the dealership and driven into the service area. So I ask why my car had to be driven, when it was clearly visible that the windows did not tuck into the roofline. He answers with "we had to do a test drive to hear the wind noise." I am about to blow up here and then he says "I don't want you crapping on our customers." So, I'm like "what?" He repeats the same sentence, explaining that he doesn't want me to tell the other customers about their service like that. So I argue what I had to go through, with all the inconveniences of driving back and forth to find either nothing done, still being worked on, find problems and find more problems. He apologizes half heartedly and asks if I want to reschedule to fix the windows at a later time, as they cannot finish within the time frame I gave them. I tell him that I do not want to deal with this dealership and the incompetence of the technicians here and that I want my keys back. Oh, he told me that it was not incompetence and that it was a mistake and it could happen to anyone.

Now, I'm in the process of waiting for a call from this dealership, after telling this story to some other company which handles complaints and bad experiences of customers with their dealerships. Hopefully, I get everything fixed on my car, as it should have been done 2 weeks ago along with some kind of verbal and non-verbal apology for my troubles.

Sorry, this post was so long. But a few of the members on this forum wanted to know what happened and also I was wanting to know what some of you guys would have done, if you were in my shoes. Thanks and again, I apologize for the long post.

Ugh I hate dealerships. FYI, you totally needed to take out all belongings as poeple who work at the dealerships can't be trusted. My sister pt cruiser had work done and the technicians stole her all of her parking coins!

Why didn't you just call to see if the car was ready the first 30 times before you decided to drive 35 miles...?

What a crappy experience...

It is true that the car did not fall off the lift, but I'm still pissed off as **** nonetheless.

Haha. Burn the dealership..? Hmm..

I did call in a few times, but the stupid service advisor doesn't pick up the phone. So I just assumed, as he promised, that the car was done. I could not have been any more wrong.

Hopefully, they somehow pay me back for all my troubles.

This all sounds really bad... Can't believe the dealership pointed it out in the end as a 'mistake'. A whole f*cking chain of mistakes if you ask me....

Hope everything will be fixed without any issues and keep us informed about the clutchfeeling...

I have been to 2 different local nissan dealerships and both didn't seem up to far in my opinion...One was a similar story with my tranny being replaced and the other was them "fixing my axle clicking" with some damn lube that didn't do anything put waste my time.

Don't take this the wrong way...but you sound like you where acting like a dick. Always treat people doing work for you NICE...then you'll get better service.
As for your cd's, they ejected 1 cd then ripped out your radio with the other cd's still inside. Why did you leave the cd's in there??? You know better than that.
Then you drive to the dealer and demand a repair in a hour without an appointment??? I wonder why they wouldn't help you.

Be nice, calm down, I believe they really want to fix your car, just give them the chance.
