350Z, RX-7 or Supra???
hi, i cant decide which car i wanna get: 06 350Z, 3rd gen rx-7 or TT supra mkiv. i dont care about number of seats and trunk space. i'd wanna do some mild mods, but im not into racing. i think theyre all great cars! please let me know what u think!
1. how hard is it to maintain? costs? i heard the rx-7 is very hard to maintain and is harder to find places w/ its parts. is that true?
2. how difficult/easy r they to drive? (stick of course) good for everyday?
3. rotary vs tt vs na??
4. anything else.
which car would u pick? please try not to be biased.

I love the third gen rx-7 but the cost of a used one is out of control, and the maintenance of a 10+ year old car with a rotary nonetheless... yeah right.
I have a feeling the 350z is going to be your best bet, and considering you're on a Z site asking this question, I have a feeling you already know that.

1. I've heard the RX-7 is not very relieble, but then again isn't relieability the whole point of the rotory engine! Less moving parts to break.
2. The only one I've driven is the Z and it's my daily driver.
3. Rotory- rev's for days and has a pretty flat torque curve. Also has sequential turbos.
TT- regular twins on a motor that's over built from the factory
NA- wishes it had turbos like the other cars.
4. I go for one of the turbo cars.

Sorry in advance...this might be a bit long winded...but here it goes..
The Supra is a great car and easy to make horsepower with. The weakness with it is that with all the horsepower comes traction issues without doing major suspension work. Also the weight is a factor in racing but you said you weren't into racing therefore this probably wouldn't mean much to you...but u will realize it if you get into a stop light to stop light "jaunt".
The Rx7 is a great car as well but it does prove costly to maintain and it does tend to be somewhat unreliable. This car requires a strict maintaince schedule but the reward is a very high redline with a street port and it is the only engine I know of that can produce power past its redline. Honestly, I own 2 (1993 TT & 1990 T2)of them and unless you're rich or like me ate alotta paint chips as a child then yea...don't get one. It's a totally different beast not to mention costly due to seal failures ( both apex and coolant) which both require a complete engine rebuild each time.
Finally we get to the 350z. If you're looking for a daily driver with extra leftover for some weekend fun then this is it. The power to weight ratio is pretty damn good and nothing outta the list can really match mild mods plus factory warrenty...depending on the dealership of course...I have 2 friends that own them and they are on these boards....I can tell you first hand that if I didn't spend all my money on my rotaries then this would be one of my choices for a daily because its a great all around sports car

Wow, how do you even conceive of putting the z in with those 2 cars? The FD and MkIV are japanese supercars, modding potential up the ying-yang with simple bolt ons. The cant even be catagorized with them. Its a nice, balanced sports car. But no where near the level of the other 2.

if your not going to mod and dont want to do alot of work it seems. Id jsut go with the Z, its newer and wont give you problems a 10 year old car will. If your all about the modding thing then any of those cars would be nice

I thought about getting an rx-7, but with the money I would spend to maintain a used car, I could get a brand spanking new Z. Plus, I'm not very handy when it comes to fixing cars.
My bro has an MKIV. If you own this car, you won't be disappointed. The rarity and the performance is a tough package to beat. I think its a pretty tough car to learn stick on, but I don't think that should factor in your decision because driving stick will become second nature. I drive my Z 1 hour and 20 min to work daily 35 miles one way through LA traffic. No complaints.
I have an 06 350z. I chose to go with a Z because of less maintenance, good handling, sexy styling. The only thing I would like more from this car out of the box is a little bit more speed.
Personally, if money/maintenance wasn't an issue I would have gotten an rx-7 because of the looks, size, and performance. I didn't want an MKIV because I didn't want rice boys kissing my *** and I didn't like the looks as much as the Z. Maybe I would get an MKIV if I didn't have my bike to quench my thirst for speed.
Anyway, my advice would be to try to drive all these cars, because that's the only way you'll know what's right for you.

fun factor, I think RX-7 would be the one... but finding 1 unmolested is tough... same goes for the Supra. Rotaries do last a long time.... just not turbo ones. Z will cost less to maintain as most have already said. FD RX-7 may be a bit rough and cramped for everyday driving.

Even though the FD is almost 14 years old it still looks awesome and inspires all sorts of people. I wonder if 14 years down the road the Z will still inspire the same feeling
I own a FD and it's only good for short, fun runs...totally sucks as a daily driver. Comparing the turbo FD and boosted Z is like comparing a fast go-cart to a heavy sports car....totally different
Here is a pic of my FD, hard to believe it's a 1993

If you're interested in low mileage supra, my buddy is selling a non-modded 1994 supra with 29,xxxx miles on it. No accidents and one owner. Carfax certified and just needs a paintjob. He has some aftermarket parts that were never installed too. PM me if you're interested.
