New Transmission

New Transmission
I started getting that "clunk" noise I've heard about when going into 2nd gear, so while getting an oil change at the dealership the other day they said they'd look into it. I just hit 12,000 miles and its a 05' (have had it over a year now).
Well, I guess a bulletin is out regarding this noise and after taking off the rear axel and doing something or another the noise still remained. Now I am going to get a new transmission and a rental car while they fix it.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I talked to my local dealership about it and they claim it is supposed to be like that...

I had the same problem when going from 1st to 2nd.
It makes a clicking type noise that is really annoying. I wish I could describe more what it sounded like, but it is a fairly unique sound. The dealership I took it to said a bulletin was out about this noise and it had to do not with the transmission, but the torque being placed on the rear axel. So they did what the bulletin said and it still made that awful clicking noise form 1st to 2nd. So, now I get a new transmission .
It doesn't make it when going from 3rd to 2nd or when I start from a roll in 2nd gear. It only makes the noise when I go from 1st to 2nd when starting from a dead stop.

The transmission and rear axle are separate problems. For applicable service bulletins look here: http://www.nissanhelp.com/Bulletins/350z/Year.htm

I have the same problem with shifting from 1st to 2nd and i also get the clunck from 3nd to 3ed. Im planning about taking my car in to nissan to get this problem and a click noise from right rear suspension. I was wondering if my injen intake will give me a hard time with the warrenty even though it doesnt relate to the trans at all? Thanks for your help.

Sucks that the tranny issue still remains even with the 05's...it's wierd I had a slight clunking noise when shifting to 2nd as well. It lasted for about 2 months and now it's gone. Hopefully my 06 will stay straight.

I too have the "clunk" going from 1st to 2nd. I took my car in to Nissan and the Service Manager said he couldn't find anything wrong with it but I know he heard the clunk. How can you not? So right now I am stuck w/ this tranny. Did any of you have trouble getting Nissan to recognize the clunk sound?

They didn't hesitate to say it needed a new tranny. After the read axle repair it kept making the noise they said they called Nissan and talked with some engineers and they said it needed a new tranny.
