Question Cameras on the Assembly Line ???

When I ordered my Z and about five times since. My sales person told me that in addition to the confirmation letter I would get an email from Nissan with a web address and date to view my car being built on the assembly line. I thought it would be really cool to see that, But it did not sound reasonable. He insisted and repeated several times. I'm sure one of us would have received that and posted it by now.

Just wondering if anybody else heard rumors to that effect?

I have often said that would be cool...and I dont think that it is entirely too impractical. I mean, they have our emails, and a digital camera only costs like 200 bucks. The problem would be the softrware (to correlate a picture with an email)

Damn that sandstone looking Z is awesome... very beautiful...
Anyway, I brought up this idea a long as *** time ago - I was told it was impossible to track a car without a VIN number and VINs are not assigned until the END of the assembly line

That's what I was afraid of. Next time I see my sales person I'll try and findout where he got his information from. It is a good idea though.

Maybe you wouldn't see YOUR EXACT CAR being built, but you could see 350Z's being built on a web cam set up.

I'm not positive but I am pretty sure that the VIN is assigned prior to production. If they know the model/package and options of the car then it would make sense that the VIN would be assigned prior to the car entering production. After all they have to have all the parts with the VIN imprinted on them when the car is assembled. From a manufacturing stand point, assigning the VIN after the car is assembled seems counter-productive.

In addition, I know that other auto manufacturers assign the VIN prior to assembly. I have also been told by a NNA rep that they will know our VIN prior to production. It kind of ties into what NiZZan originally posted, but different. She told me that we would be notified when a VIN was assigned and when the car was scheduled for production. That doesn't seem like it is going to happen now though.
