Default tranny problem, NOT NORMAL?

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem with there manual tranny Z's. It happens while down shifting in 3rd gear. I will take the car up to around 4k rpm and let it rev down. when it gets to about 3.5k my shifter vibrates violently. I have taken it to the dealer several times and they keep telling me that for that year Z, that the problem is normal. I cant beleive that because when I purchased the car (2004 Z) it never did that until about a year later. Can anyone tell me If this dealer is just screwing with me or are they right.

"vibrates violently" Yuck, that doesn't sound normal. What exactly is your definition of vibrates violently? Can you better explain the way you are trying to downshift?

The shifter does vibrate a little more than other cars, but I dont know about it being "violent", that sounds wrong. Go to another dealer.

I guess if you compared the shifter to say a Honda then yes its a tad violent... But then the 350z has a lot more torque then the Hondas...

violent means that it feels like your cell phone on vibrate, but 3 times as hard. I really dont think its normal because it didnt do it when I first purchased the car.

I have an 2004.5 and it does the same thing....usually on the same road at the same curve. That's freakin weird now that I think about it.

I wouldn't use the word violent, I would use "annoying"

I have the same problem with my 03, when i bring it up to 4500 in third and let it rev down the shifter shakes also, and it stops below 2500.I have not taken it to dealer because of my lack of confidence in any of them. Curious to know if anyone else has taken it in for same problem.

Yeap, mine between 5500K-6500K RPM.

Tip of the day: An engine damper helps a lot for this problem.
