Default Whining sound coming from front Help??

Hi guys I was hoping for some help here on this matter. I have a whining sound coming from the front right of the motor. I thought it might be the Alternator or water pump. I went to a friends house who has worked on cars in the past and he put a long screwdriver on the alternator and said it doesn't sound like that is what it is. Then he put the screwdriver on the idle pulley I think and it was shaking like a Harley!! He said he thinks I need a new idle pulley, does this sound right has anyone else had this problem??

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Jason

is that when you get it? this seems to be a normal thing with most Z owners.

I get the same as SBT !!
When I cruise at about 80 and I slightly push the gas pedal, it starts to whine a little, sounds a little like alternator noise but not quite.

Mine only happens when I am driving at low speeds I cant really hear it when I am at highway speeds only slow speeds. I dont think it is the tranny because it happens when I have the car in neutral or park too. Like I said earlier my friend put a long screwdriver on the idle pulley I think that's what it was and you could definitely see it was not right it shook like a Harley shakes at idle. He is going to put a new idle pulley on tomorrow so I will let you all know if that fixes my problem.

I got the same problem as you two. Threadstarter: that noise could be caused by many things, just take it to the dealer and have them worry about what it is.

Just got a call from my mechanic saying it was the idle pulley making the noise. It costed me $150 to get it replaced. Hope this helps you guys!
