Do you guys drop it from a couple feet away from the latch? OR let it sit on the latch then push the hood down?

Im having trouble closing the hood without being afraid of denting the hood.

 

About 16" above and I drop it. Aluminum hood - risk denting it pushing down.

 

Just drop it gently with about a foot of space..

How do you guys start up your cars without scratching the ignition? I am always afraid when pushing the metal key into the ignition that my key or ignition will get scratched. Also, do you guys actually touch the shifter and risk getting your oily hands on it or do you keep a towel wrapped around it. I get nervous rolling down my window because I don't want to wear off the cool picture on my window switch.

I slam mine shut as hard as I can.....almost as hard as a chick would close a car door....

 

i went to the dealership to get my oil change. while we were still in the car waiting in line, the service manager asked me to open my hood. when he was done he dropped it to close it but it didn't shut. then before i could say or do anything, he used both of his hands and pushed it down hard!

 

I was at a car show once and the owner of a very nice original mini was showing his car. It attracted a lot of people (guess a lot of mini fans). He stepped away for a second and his girlfriend/wife went and closed the hood by letting go of the hood and letting it drop two feet down. Everyone gasped and cringed when they saw that an award that he put under the hood got wrecked and also scraped some of the paint on the bumper. The husband/boyfriend was very embarressed that his wife/girlfriend didn't even know how to properly close a hood.

It's not like you will have something under your hood everytime, but you open up the hood for a reason and you might forget something underneath after working on it or something, so it's always a good habit to put the hood down on the latch nicely and then push it down to lock it.

I have always closed the hood this way, so it is second nature to me. But I remember one time someone saw me closing my hood and I heard one of them tell the other one: "That's how you close a hood."

You are probably better off driving with it open; don't want to dent that thing man...

 

This will also allow more cool air into the popcharger for better HP.

 

Yeah, why is that? I mean, even the weakest of the weak girls will manage to SLAM a car door closed!

 

My GF is a fat lard a$$. I just have her sit on the hood to close it. + sh'es too fat to fit in the car, so we just roll around town like that too.
