kelementz... here is an idea. Fill your gas tank up all the way, and reset your trip meter. Drive around like normal. Fill the tank up again whenever you feel like it. Record the miles traveled and the amount of fuel you added (used). Divide.

Very simple math here.

It's also no wonder you fill up every day if you only add $6 every time. That is like what..... a little more than 2 gallons??? Wouldn't surprise me if youre using regular unleaded too... lol

The MLS guage should come with a warning sticker. People go by that way to much. That is an estimate and may very depending on how you are driving at the time.

By the way... I was giving him instructions on how to get his actual MPG, not the calculated MPG. Big difference. That constitutes help, TYVM.

350Z n00b here, but that sounds to me like your gas gauge is fried, and just falls wicked fast after a certain part (hence the $20 and $50 worth of gas difference).

Then maybe its entirely mental because if you nailed the gas everywhere you went you would get better than 4 mpg.

Whats the avg. miles/gallon gauge say?

theoretically by filling 5 gallons per visit vs. maximum of 20 gallons the weight savings would show an increase of miles per gallon.

6.85 lbs per gallon would result in a savings of 102 lbs!

isn't there a recall on the filler pipe leaking. have you checked that there are not puddles under your car?

Don't have 91 here, only 89 or 93 so I guess I will have to go with the 93 (ouch!). So yeah, I am rather concerned with gas mileage, even though the Z has great mileage for a car in its class (V6 ftw!).

you may not see any fuel leak assuming it's warm where you are - evaporation...like someone already said, drive until --- (E) on the guage, fill up, track the miles then divide them by 20 (size of tank in gallons or by however many gallons your receipt says you put in) - that will give you your true ave. mpg...

edit: be sure to drive like you normally do - don't think too much when driving or you may get a skewed final mpg# (higher/lower than your true driving style's #)

also keep in mind that the avg mpg gauge resets every 30 seconds or so...so if you hit a few stop lights that could account for the change in DTE

Does the car go up to normal operating temp or not ? If not, the thermostat might be stuck open and the car remains in warm-up mode, which would explain the horrific MPG you're getting. Just an idea. Good Luck
