cf, rice or not?
If you really want CF then I think you should get the CF painted to match your car's paintjob. Painted CF is subtle, and still has all the benefits of CF. All the top of the line sports car have painted CF. I think painted CF is really nice but plain CF is becoming pretty riced out nowadays. A CF lip or CF mirrors or small CF trunk spoiler is probably as far as I'll go if I had to choose.
I don't see how carbon fiber is rice...it's more expensive than fiberglass. Isn't rice the equivalent of cheap looking? How can carbon fiber look cheap? Granted I'm biased because I love the stuff, love showing it off so my Z has a cf hood, eyelids, bpillar and spoiler.
well this one is tough for me,, I have a cf fenders, hood, front nismo style bumper, sideskirts, and rear pieces. I got the front because i have a black z and the stock front was beat up,, and i never dealt with any good body shops in my area here so i figured ok i can get away with it,,, then i hit a dear on my driver side fender, so i got cf ones,,, it was way cheaper than the quote i got to get a new oem one and paint it. So i kinda did it bc i had to,, coming from the heavy Honda game out here,, body kits in general are all ricey,, thats how i thought,,, I love the way cf looks though,, im def a cf *****,, also from my past experience when i was showing my hondas,, any fiberglass kits i had,, or even urethane didnt really hold paint too well at all for daily driving,,,, so i dont know,, but I can definately tell you i never got a bad compliment on my ****,, its like people know its expensive, and they assume your the man or something, I dont think its ricey at all,,, but if i had a white z or another color,,, it would def be tacky as hell.
Also too,, in the near future when the car gets painted i was planning on actually lightly painting the cf over,,, so you can still see it. I guess im attention ***** also, I originally baught my car as a gift for myself for graduating college and getting a good job, and i wanted people to see I was doing pretty good,,, so the more expensive the parts the better,,, I mean damn, if people didnt care about looks or anything,, nobody would be out there buying Volks, or HRE's or Racing Harts, or any kind of expensive wheels.. Carbon Fiber is exotic, its functional,, and it tastes good!! lol
IMO the only way unpainted carbon fiber would look REALLY good is if ALL the body panels of the car were carbon fiber. I saw an aftermarket body kit for a Lotus Elise where they replace all the body panels with carbon fiber (including the interior). It was a 50,000 body kit and I believe wider then stock too. It was very hawt.
Even if 350zs or supras or rx7s or skylines have unpainted carbon fiber, I will still see that as rice. But nowadays, I don't think all rice looks that bad if that's you're style.
They way I see it is like a famous name-brand wallet like Burberry. The wallets without the Burberry pattern all over the wallet actually cost more then the wallets with the full Burberry pattern everywhere. It all depends on the quality, and subtle is good.

And i could personally care less whether the car gets me attention or not... i drove a civic for like 3 years... i'm used to people paying no attention to me... I just do what i like because i like it, not to win shows or say LOOK AT ME I SPEND WAY TOO MUCH TIME WITH MY CAR!
I want seats now because i sat in one and liked how they felt, so in my mind the money spent is justified... so as soon as i start working my way through my laundry list of item to buy i'll throw those in there at some point...
I get annoyed with people talking about how "rice" a car is...Rice came out when Honda kids started tricking their cars out with huge wings ginormous body kits and had absolutely no power....why did they do that? easy little to no knowledge of engine work, body work gets more attention than engine work...so they got tagged with the "rice" title. Most rightfully so...but some actually did hondas with good taste but couldn't buy a higher end car due to mommy and daddy not buying us our ride...
My first car was a honda and I had what I thought was an aggressive body kit put on it with stylish spoiler...this was when I was 18 and knew ABSOLUTELY nothing about engines...but not by choice by way of never being around cars...I bought the civic for the sole purpose of teaching myself as much as possible about cars while not expending to much money...I bought the body kit, spoiler, engine mods, interior mods, wheels, etc and installed everything myself...with many problems...I started modding the car before the huge import push...but as soon as the import push started I was labeled a ricer, this pissed me off more than anything and to this day hearing people call cars rice with little understanding of the term gets under my skin...so take what I'm saying for what its worth.
Now in my oppinion doing mods to your car for looks is fine!!! There should be absolutely nothing wrong with putting a CF wing, hood, fenders, etc as long as its done with a purpose, if you're buying carbon fiber hood and wing because you want a faster car....you're most likely mistaken and could have gained more by putting the money elsewhere. A 350z already has a good amount of power so why not put some cash into some styling...
So all that being said to say this...Carbon fiber itself is in no way rice...its the kids who put huge *** wings body kits and go around bragging bout their "bangin ride"...I guess its more the attitude of the owner overall IMHO

My deal is i don't want pieces that just glue to or fit over the stock parts... i want parts that fully replace them... otherwise you are just wasting time and money...

Carbon fiber, if done right, isn't rice at all.
I see it as weight reduction.
you buy the cf to replace the weight of the original body part of the car...if for that reason. If your a hardcore enthusiast, and want to make your car lighter and track it...why spend money on painting it?...I really dont see the point of painting CF..look at rickdogs car..cf hood, trunk, and doors...probably the prime example.
To me the defination of Rice is something that is cheesy looking.. If done in moderation CF can look pretty sweet... But over do it and it can look rather cheesy...
Also take into a count that something that might look rice on a street car might look pretty good on a race car that only used at the track.
