Angry How do you feel about what your Z is worth?

Ive been a 350Z owner since day one. Had an 2003 touring and now own a 2004 roadster. And lately its been bugging me that everyone and there mom can get one. Due to the fact that the are not holding their value like I think they should. How does everyone feel about this? I know its been pissing me off.

They seem to be holding their value just fine. They weren't that expensive to begin with, anyway. After all, it is an entry level sports car.

I think people are asking too much for used ones. The people who got theirs in 02 all paid sticker or more. Some people paid a $5-10K dealer markup. My buddy got a Touring with everything back then. It was about $38K OTD. He sold it this year for $23K. It appears he took a big hit. If you figure you can go get an 06 Touring w/everything for $32K, it doesn't seem so bad. This car's value can be seen in the base model. For roughly $26K you can get an 06 Base OTD. You can sell it in three years for $20K. I think that is great. All those options people pay for are only expensive at the time of new purchase. All used Zs look the same to most people, base or track. I think the best way to keep your value is go with Touring and don't change a thing. People will assume the leather makes it the most expensive one you can get.

I drive the car and don't concern myself with resale value. Just enjoy the ride.

You haven't experienced depreciation if you haven't bought a brand new Alfa-Romeo

I concur with Manu. If you want really bad depreciation try owning an Audi. If depreciation was not bad enough repair costs are out of control. E.G. you guys can get a good after market clutch for around $450 plus another $150-200 for install.

A factory OEM Audi clutch for an A4 is $1200 just for the clutch. So add on another $200 for install. The cheapest aftermarket clutch which works well is $900 if you have friends in the business and $1k if you don't......

I did notice that the 350z takes a pretty large hit in dep. the first year (around $9k). This is part of the reason I am looking to pick up a 03/04 for around $22k OTD because many are in that price range and you can still get some factory warranty (basic powertrain limited).

As much as we love our Zs, it is an entry level sports car; I think resale is fine. Doesn't really matter to me anyway, no plans to sell the Brick. i'm still in love!!

Soooo true.....
i remember i lost 10k$ when i sold my fully loaded blk 00 jetta in 02 with 20k miles. i learned my lesson.....well, i only lost two Ben Franklins when i traded my 04 Focus with 12k miles in 05 not including ca. sales tax and license. Ford Focus has excellent resale value lol....

I just paid $21,500 for an '03 with 33k miles. There was no way the dealer was going lower than that either (at this time of year). In the winter you can get them below invoice because no one wants them then, but yeah, $21,500 isn't too bad for a brand new car that didn't cost much more than $30,000.

Our resale value sucks but, talk to anyone that bought new a Range Rover HSE within the past few years. Those things lost more in value than our cars cost. I thought the Z would hold a better value myself, but I'm not looking to sell anytime soon.

Should made the Z less affordable, so its not that common of a car
Should be as common as the 300zx is these days.

Reliability data above from 350Z owners. Compiled by Consumer Reports.

The upper right corner states: predicted depreciation very good. Lets get the facts straight before we have a debate based on like I feel they should.

Actually, the reason I went ahead and bought a new one ('06 Enthusiast) is because I didn't think there was enough discount for a used one.

I paid $27,700 (plus tax/tags/doc, etc) for the new one, and I couldn't find an '05 for less than $26,500

bill
