I haven't had much warm weather experience in the Z yet. The average highs lately have been about 40 and I don't get to drive in the heat of the day.

With these lower temperatures, as I said, I can chirp 3rd if I want to. I really don't know how easy it would be in warmer weather.

just for the record, I went out and tried to peel any gear other than 1st with pure power, no shift. I tried at all RPMs, but at no point did the car break traction just by putting my foot down. it was about 50-60degrees out, and the tires were not warmed up.

spinning and chirping on shifts is possible, but I am definitly not breaking traction on 8" wide tires with 287hp; and Im inclined to say anyone disagrees is exagerating.

Oh! I didn't say personally without a shift. I haven't really tried without shifting. I know I have chriped in second before without shift, but the only way I can get a chirp into third is on the shift.

ares, I have a 6MT Track model and I have never managed to spin the tires in 1st (let alone any other gear) unless I rev the **** out of the engine and drop the clutch.

Sometimes the car feels like a beast but most of the time it feels like the emergency brake is on. I plan to dyno the car soon, but, in the meantime I've suspected an over sensitive knock sensor or faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) or equivalent. But it could just be my imagination. I seem to have plenty of overtaking power.

Of course, on the up side, breaking traction is not a good thing if you like powering out of curves.

What's interesting is being able to get from one end of a road to the other with a higher top speed in my 150HP FWD race car than my Z. This doesn't make sense unless my corner exit speed is substansially higher coming on to the straight.

Try putting your car on the bottle! I just upped my shot and seriously, in this 30 degree NY weather, I cruise in 3rd gear and if i nail it anywhere after 3000 rpm, not only does it spin but the rear end comes out!!

I dont like nitrous, too dangerous, and I cant afford to buy a new engine.

my car is at normal power I believe since I did manage 14.2 at 100mph, but none the less, in 1st the tires seem to be struggling, but they dont spin(cept on a launch) and in 2nd and 3rd, they are planted(cept on a shift).

the car has 287hp, thats alot and all, but its not anything thats going to be spinning rear tires in 2nd gear.

He asked how easy it was to chirp the tires going into 2nd. I don't think anybody was saying they were breaking traction just by flooring it in a gear. All I read is talking about breaking traction on shifts, and spinning from there.

I was already on 2nd gear. I pressed it down when the rpm went above 5000.

On cold tires, foot off clutch, @ 4000 rpm in 2nd gear...

If I gun the throttle, the tires spin wildly.
In cold, If I am slowly cruising in second at 3000rpm and then floor it, the VDC kicks in, I see "slip" light up and feel it slide and correct. Doesnt have to be a power shift...or even a shift for that matter
Shifted to 2nd when the rpm went over 5000. I felt the back end going to the side!
I can barely hold third in this 30 degree weather. Even if I'm in the gear, if I floor it bye bye traction.
theres a few people that said the Z could break traction without a shift. or atleast thats what I inferred from the posts.

just commenting that as best as I can tell, breaking traction without a shift in anything other than maybe first is not possible.

That has not been my experience - when outside temperature is below freezing, mine will spin in second gear if I floor it around 3500 to 4000 rpm. I only have the 17"s though so 1 cm smaller width on each side.

The stock rubber has very poor traction in colder temperatures.
Can't comment on warmer temps though.
