Default Nissan North America to Recall 97'000 Altimas and Sentra's for Oil Consumption

Being that I have had a new motor (oil consumption), Tranny and clutch all in the last 5 months, I find this article interesting. They should really look at our Z's for some of the same issues....

Altimas, Sentras recalled

Nissan North America Inc. said Thursday that it is recalling 97,000 Altima and Sentra vehicles after reports of excessive oil consumption and engine fires led the automaker to stop selling the vehicles.

Nissan said some 2006 sedans with 2.5-liter engines could consume oil quickly, and had the potential to suffer engine damage and fires.

The automaker received 274 reports of excessive oil consumption and 24 engine fires. Spokesman Fred Standish said there was one report of a "very minor injury."

Nissan ordered dealers to stop selling the vehicles in early June after it got the complaints. The automaker still is trying to determine the cause of the problem, Standish said.

The company said 85,000 of the recalled vehicles were in the United States, others were in Canada, Mexico and the Middle East. The recalled vehicles were built from January to May this year.

Altima and Sentra vehicles built after May 22 "have been tested rigorously and have shown no signs of excessive oil consumption," Standish said.

Kind of glad now that I got my son the 06 1.8S Sentra. I read about this a few weeks ago, they reported 17 engine fires then, now up to 24 huh... not good!

Thats too bad. I dont think there is engine issues with the V-6s. Nissans are known for making the best V-6s in the world.
