Don't worry about it. Nissan puts that in the owners manual because detonation over a very long term can cause damage, but one tank full (or $30 which is like 3/4 a tank) isn't going to harm the car. Besides, detonation is really only going to occur when loading the car at low RPMs. For an NA car, detonation is pretty much impossible after like 3000rpm. So as long as you aren't trying to pull a 6% grade in top gear, you should be fine.

My car also "requires" premium. I've been running 87 almost exclusively ever since gas prices went way up, with no ill effects.

I say you go back show the person that filled up your car the sticker* that says premium gas only on the gas lid and then get a free tank.... I know 87 isnt gonna hurt anything, but I know I would not be happy, since i had my car its been chevron 91 and thats it, if this would have happened to me I would have gotten something out of it, because its MY car...

LOL at most of you people overreacting about this. If you're worried about your car getting damaged due to one tank of regular gas you're being more than a little paranoid.

I used 87 for the first couple of months that I had my 350Z and the car ran like a champ. In using premium for the last month I haven't noticed any difference in the performance or gas mileage.

If it really bothers you just make sure that you have them put premium in it next time...other than that, don't even worry about it for this tank, it's not going to cause any damage.

hmmm this thread has me thinking my situation.
Here in New Zealand regular(cheaper) fuel is 91 and Premium(expensive) is 95.
You guys are talking 87 and 91, so I might just use 91 and save me some money.

Or, is 95 in New Zealand the same as 91 in the states?

Different labels but the same fuel quality?

ANyway, know what I mean ,LOL

Its a different rating system. Europe, Asia NZ, etc uses the MON standard, and the US uses the PON standard. Your 95 is the same as our 91.

Don't feel bad. A few years ago I was watching them refuel a 35' cabin cruiser when the owner yelled "You dumb sh**. You just put diesel in my water tank."

I understand the cleanup ran well over $1K. (Didja ever taste diesel flavored water???)
