Default Base owner missing out?

Hey all, i have a base ordered i was wondering what all i will be missing as opposed to all the other models.

no upgraded brakes....no biggie for me

no LSD=biggie

my big question is will this be something i can add later, possibly from the dealership? If so, how much will it run me?

is there anything else? will we still get the on board computer with the gauges in the console and the programable shiftlight on the tach? Any help would be appriciated.

The big ones are the TCS, The Cruise Control, The VLSD. You should have just gone for the enthusiast and avoided these headaches IMHO.

You can add them aftermarket but things like Cruise Control and TCS are not easy to add on unless NISMO has some support for it. the VLSD shouldnt be too bad to add in.

Also things like HID lights are kinda tight and aftermarket are expensive for these.

Anyways .. have fun and becareful

Personally I hate TCS and I will always have it turned off in my Enthusiast model. What sold me on the Enthusiast model was the LSD (which if you don't want then you'll be fine iwth the base), the cruise control & the HID headlights (Both added pluses although the C.C. is what sold the package to me). I think everyone getting a Z is getting a great car, especially at the base price of $26k. I feel each package above base is a decent value and at the end of the day every model has it's perks.

Mostly agree. I am not to wild about TCS either, BUT I will always have it on in the rain (and occasional snow). When you need it, it is REALLY nice to have.

robbyn - I never really gave snow a thought since I've got enough other cars for that use. I guess if I did get caught in a snow storm or something TCS might be needed (although I've never needed in the past) especially with the Zs summer tires.

I guess now I retract my previous statement and will say I hate TCS and will only use it under extreme conditions like snow & ice.

The cruise and the xenon headlamps are well worth a jump of 2k. Buying HID lamps will cost a pretty penny on aftermarket parts. You'll figure out why the cruise is a must have if you ever take a long trip. I haven't heard anyone mention the auto-temperature control yet. I hate fumbling with buttoms myself. When you think of value you should have definately taken the enthusiast without question...It's definately the best buy.

Mr350Z, YOU ARE CORRECT!

The shift lights will be on all 6 speed Z's. I noticed the difference when the "gift" pages were posted, before I got mine. Posted a post, and the God of Z's himself, ZISME, answered that it was a mistake on the disk.

BTW, I think I got that tacky thing figgered out.

screw it, you got a great deal. I keep thinking about how wonderful it is that you can get the Z for under 30k WITH TAX AND LICENSE! I changed to enthus. and I kinda regret it. I would rather have a 2k stereo system...

Heres what I think you should hear:
1. Are you 16? Then why do you need TCS? Just take you foot off the damn gas instead of having the Z babysitter do it for you...

2. If you dont know excatly what VLSD is and what it does and why you'd care, then forget it. I know a bunch about it even, and I realize that its useful to the avg. driver for about a total of 60 minutes for a cars total lifespan. If you hit the track just once a weekend though, then you're screwed. And approx $2300 for a stillen LSD is murder!

3. I am planning to sell my xenons to the highest bidder on ebay (and in exchange for normal halogens) cuz those things are very cool, but are like talking on the cell phone in the movie theatre. (annoys everybody else)

4. homelink? Worthless if you dont have a garage

5. aluminum pedals? Look at the pics...they are plain old screw ons that you can get at pepboys.

COUNTERPOINT: WTF, no cruise control? Nissan removed this for no good reason, just to make you buy the enthus. hmmm

I got a base model as well with the intent of adding my own aftermarket parts (supercharger, brakes, etc.).
You'll always be better going aftermarket for parts than the dealer. KAAZ makes LSDs for Nissans, and they're a great company. You'll have your pick of Brembo (my personal fav), AP, Wilwood and Baer for big brake packages. Big brake packages run about $2800 on average. A new LSD from KAAZ is $880.00. Hope I helped.

He's saying that the younger you are the less experience you have driving. That's not to say that the older you are the better your driving ability but that driving experience in general will better prepare you for possible misshaps where TCS would come in handy.

im 16 too, lol, (why i get the base which im still extremely thrilled about, almost **** in my pants when i found out), well, ill be 17 at the end of the month.

Anyway, i was reading the document somebody posted (thanks btw). Here's an excerpt:

3-Bay Gauges Drive computer Tire pressure monitor (Perf, Tour 6MT, Track) Oil pressure gauge Voltmeter Oil temperature

So it says you dont get the tire pressure monitor with the base. But whats up w/ the other 4 gauges. We only get 3 gauges and it lists 4 (5 with the other models). Could two or more of these functions be combined with the computer gauge closest to the steering wheel?

not an insult...

but I will say that my comment derives from several studies demonstrating that teens lack advanced hand eye coordination.

Note that the easiest way to die as a teen is behind the wheel (satistically)
