A guy at work also lost control on the highway and crashed his Z. It was raining quite heavily and he wasn't aware of the incapability of the stock tyres to deal with water. When changing lanes a little to fast the car spun out of control.
Just be more cautious and take it easy on the throttle while on stock tyres during rain and you should be fine.
I once dared to turn of VDC and tried to launch it on a wet surface of a wide road. Ended up going all the way from left to right and just managed to control it. Stock tyres suck.

Well my Z is my only car so when it does rain and if I really have go somewhere then yeah I take it out. But here in LA it only rains like 30 days a year between Dec, Jan, Feb and March.

Driving In Rain
In the Scottsdale/Phoenix area we usually get rains in December and July/August (the monsoon rains)
A couple nites ago I had gone out and got caught in a very heavy downpour (which happens perhaps once a year) - accompanied by strong winds (another rarity).
Yesterday morning morning I had to backtrack because of trees, etc. blown down and streets closed. In a hurry at an intersection I decided to make a right hand turn on a red light at a busy intersection. I must have still had it in first gear and stepped down a bit hard in a wet spot and spun out. I only turned about 45 degrees proably and then straightened out and proceded. I was lucky noone was too close.
This was the first time in my life I have spun out - as I am usually fairly cautious, although years ago I was driving across the interstate in western Iowa in a heavy rain - with a Bonneville convertible - and I hydroplaned. I did at least a complete 360 degree turn plus a 90 before we ended up rear.end in to a cement abuttnet, It totaled the the quite new auto and lucikily no one was too badly hurt. That auto had posi-traction and I always felt that that was what contributed to it's losing control. I dont believe they put posi-traction in autos anymore. If they do, they call it something else.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Dunlops 9000. I've used them in the rain and perform very competitively. Overall, pretty good tire although the braking department the ABS comes a little too early. Some PS2 may fix that. I run PS2 on the back.

Got my Z last night, it's been raining all day. It's my first "new" (as in used, but new to me) car. I can help but drive it even though it's new, it's too fun.

Yep. I try not to drive when it rains. I just got new rear tires (Nitto 555 NT) because one of my previous rear tires (Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S) blew on the highway due to a 4 inch nail. I haven't tested the new rears in wet weather.
