That's why the popcharger's even better. Cheap, more gains, no trouble in the rain, easier to maintain.

The Nitto 555 have a very thin groove like the OEM Potenzas. They are very good tires but in the wet may hydroplane like the Bridgestones because the water has nowhere to go. Just be careful out there until you know them well.

You're right, we don't drive Ferraris or Lamborghinis. But I love my Z to let it be rained on if it doesn't have to. I'd rather have it tucked away safely in the garage and drive some other car.

^+1 I don't drive it in the rain either because I just take another car.
I drove it in the rain once, just to test the Pilots when I first got them.

Damn, I have a base model Z with stock tires and this is my daily driver. I also live in Florida, so should I start worrying now? Do the stock tires suck that much on wet surfaces? This sucks… now I have to drive like a pu$$y when it rains.

Duh! I live in western Washington. They call it the Evergreen State because it's supposed to rain that much. I live 23 miles from the nearest stores. Do you think I'm going to walk AND get wet so the car doesn't? However, thanks to the advice on this site I am definitely switching out of my stock tires. I've had no problems yet, but I'm not deaf to what so many are saying. I appreciate it.

I don't know how you guys drive, and are so concern about driving it during a rainy day. I have an 04 base model, with "no traction control", and i have never had a problem driving my z around town when it's wet, but then again, i don't drive like an idiot. Keep in mind that i do NOT drive my z on snow (sits in my garage dec-march). Don't make a big deal about it. Drive carefully and be safe.

Nope, never. Not because I'm afraid of hydroplaning, but because I have a 2000 s10 truck I use as a daily driver and when the weather is nicer and I feel like it, I will drive my 91 N/A 2+2 (though if I get caught in the rain I will drive it anyway) and only on nice days will I drive my 94tt (425hp-78k) (never seen inclement weather). The drive time for the latter 2 gets split with my GSXR 1000. This also cuts down on washing and waxing!

I made the mistake of telling my wife after I bought my new Z, "This car will never see rain." As I was coming back from a track day not long after I bought the Z, it started POURING rain. Then, I found out that the tension spring on the garage door had broken while I was gone, so the Z sat out all nite in the rain! I had jynxed myself by saying the Z would never see rain!

So to answer the thread - yeah - Once!

Yip the RE040's really are hopeless in the rain, ditch the stocks and you'll embrace every opportunity to play out in the rain in your Z.
