why would the 2007 350z gts concept keep the "old" engine?!?! If you look at the pics, you can see the old engine

nope, the fast one is the GT-R type Skyline. In Japan there has always been a skyline (which is a normal car, and relatively slow) and there is a GT-R version (which hauls ***). People generally mistakenly say "skyline's are cool and haul ***" but what they should be saying is "GT-R's are cool and haul ***".

It's kind of like a bmw 318 vs a bmw m3. (kind of)

and yes, the G35 here is called a 'skyline' in japan. however, there is no GT-R, therefore the no hauling of ***.

Hmmmm...October edition of Car & Driver "2007 New Cars" lists the 350z as unchanged for 2007....

Incidentally, they tested the 2007 G35 Sedan 6MT. 0-60 5.2, 1/4 13.9 @ 103, 306HP 268 lb-ft

The G's HP rating is using the new calculation method so the gain would be much greater using the old method.

Well it seems they didn't do their home work, since this is the official press announcement for the 2007's (as previously posted on this thread):

350Z Coupe and 350Z Roadster

The 2007 Nissan 350Z is scheduled to go on sale in January 2007. The changes for the new model year will include new exterior colors, a new gray colored convertible top (Roadster models), Active Head Restraints and performance enhancements including a new VQ35HR engine.

The 2007 350Z will again be available in Coupe and Roadster body styles and in an array of models –four for the Coupe, including a Grand Touring model, and three for the Roadster (including the Grand Touring automatic transmission version).

More information on the 2007 Nissan 350Z will be available at a later date.

i wouldn't say 12s stock...even with better tires...but possibly 12s with dual CAIs (if they make good power) and some weight reduction...i.e. no spare tire/carpet/board...and the jack and jack equipment...

What was the old method and whats the new one? Why would they do something so stupid like that, is it SAEs fault again?

Yes, technically it is the SAE's fault again... I understand, however, as manufacturer's have been making outrageous claims lately. The SAE standard just levels the playing field, making every HP value equal, no matter the type or dyno used or the block used. (Many manufacturer's, when faced with a HP test, will make a block that just 'happens' to meet the exact tolerances which will yield the most HP)
