Don't expect the motor to be underrated, or you'll be in for some disappointment. If you want to go by the magazine figures, I estimate the new Z 0-60 times will be about 4.8s and 1/4mi in about 13.6s.
The new 6MT G sedan is just as fast as the IS350 (AUTO). The IS has a bit more peak torque. I would like to see what the IS350 dyno graph would look like on top of the VQ graph just to analyze the characteristics of the motors.

The LA autoshow which just finished is coming up to San Francisco late Nov. You think they'll allow ppl to go inside the '07 Z then?
I just don't understand what's the big deal w/ letting ppl see it if it's just minor changes as indicated. Even the '08 G35 coupes have had their interior shots shown -_-;

I'll stick with my 03' thank you very much...
I've never liked the new headlights, and now that hood
I think the review saying that its getting softer is a good description. I like my impractical, hard riding, heavy clutch, cheap interior, no storage, and my damn tranny rattling away in neutral...

I asked this in another thread, but didn't get any input.
Someone enlighten me as to why a newly introduced engine like the 3.5 VQHR will only live ONE year on the '07 Zs and then jump to a 3.7? We already know the '07 Z and G35 sedan will get the HR.
I have my share of doubts that the 3.7 liter engine will make it so soon, because if Nissan needed a boost of power in general, they could of easily altered the current VQ to 3.7 to gain it w/o spending so much on r&d for the new HR.
I highly think the 3.7 will arrive at least 2-3 years AFTER the release of '07s G35 Coupe to be used in redesigns in both the Gs and Z. Because Nissan was able to develop the HR to extend the Z and both Gs' to a possible 350hp (100/liter), there is no point in using a superior 3.7 engine now and keeping it for future G/Z generations. It's pretty easy to see, the revised HR engine is to the revised Gs/Zs while the current VQ is to current Gs/Zs. Both the revisions in design and engine go hand-in-hand as an intermediate step to the 3.7 liter.
If you look at the timeline, it's pretty convincing as well.
Current VQ engine was slapped into the G/Z in '03.
Fast forward 3 yrs to '06, new VQHR confirmed to be in G/Z
As I've stated above, I believe the new HR is here to stay for that same period of time, 3 yrs until we see 3.7 introduced.
The same can be said about the horsepower of the future G/Zs up to 350.
Introduction of G/Z ranged from 260-287.
Fast forward 3 yrs and we have 298-300 for both those cars, that's range of an additional 40 hp.
With the new HR and assuming Nissan will slowly upgrade the hp like they did from '03-'06, the new G/Zs can easily expect 350 in three years.
So that's my analysis, feel free to correct me. I pulled those hp and dates from Wiki.

13.4@105??? you gotta be kidding... i highly doubt it. maybe 13.6 or 13.7. but not that low. it's unlikely that nissan would be improving performance by that much on a Z that's on the verge of a major make-over in 08 or 09... (unless they're planning on FI or significantly bigger engine)
also, 8hp increase on the new G is under the new SAE rating. under that rating, the 06 Z would be measured at low ~290s hp... 03-05 Zs at less than 280 hp. so from that perspective, the new VQ is a very good improvement from its previous models, considering that the displacement has remained the same.
also fyi, trying to improve 0.1 sec on 1/4 mile times in the 13 sec range requires a lot more power compared to power needed to improve 0.1 sec on 1/4 mile times in the 14 sec or 15 sec range.
