Thanks guys for the info guys, I hope I dont have to go through consumption test...About 1,000 miles after I changed my oil it was in the middle of the dipstick(so Im missing 1/2 quart), so I filled it up and Im just waiting to see if the level drops again.

I Have never heard of the z engine consuming oil. I work at a dealership and there is a lot of problems w/ the altmas.... know, nissan will not do anything if the consuption is less then 2 quarts.... that's how they are handling the altimas....

wow, things must be different on the east coast. >1qt/1k mi is the threshold according to my experience here in cali. i posted the whole engine-replacement story here, but you would have to use the dreaded search button to find it.

Year of Z/G: 2005 G35 Sedan 6MT

Miles: Noticed oil was low at ~3-4k miles

Amount of Oil lost per how many miles: 2 different test done at different dealerships. First one tech said I was within range but he did not have any accurate means of measuring how much oil was burned. I went to a different dealership and they finally concluded that I was burning 1qt/1000 miles.

Length of time for you to complete your test: ~1.5 month

Engine replacement (Short or Long Block): Finally replaced shortblock at 16k miles and noticed it was still burning oil.

Forgot to mention, I made the dealership use Mobile 1 5w30 Full synthetic with all of my oil consumption tests. I am now using Castrol 5w30 non syn, and still monitoring it. Hopefully it will help...

Funny thats what the A5SHOLES at my dealership said...I felt like telling them to visit the boards and read the stories.

Just an idea maybe if you are dealing with your dealer get the names of people on this forum that are having similiar problems that way gives you a little more backing in your cause.Or if your calling Nissan to open a case. (if people are willing to do that) . I notice my oil gauge reads right below 1/4 at idle. Is that normal.

Year of Z/G: 2006 (Z, enthusiast)
Miles: 4352
Amount of Oil lost per how many miles: all of it
Lenght of time for you to complete your test: didn't have one, blown engine was my test
Engine replacement (Short or Long Block): long block + cats

oil light never came on, oil pressure was always fine, engine temp was always fine, dipstick read full, and then one day bad noise, tow to dealer, two days later they are telling me they have to order a new long block. i'm so disappointed.
