Angry If You Have Oil Consumption Test.. Please Respond!

Sorry mods for posting this here but I need some quick responses from some people.

I was wondering if anyone who has gone through the oil consumption test could you post here with some info. Include the following info:

Year of Z/G:
Miles:
Amount of Oil lost per how many miles:
Lenght of time for you to complete your test:
Engine replacement (Short or Long Block):

My test is just finishing up and I have a feeling I am going to have to battle with my local dealership for a new motor.

The "service manager" was out till monday... I took my Z back today after fininshing up my test and my Z burnt off 1qt. The service tech said that my oil level was "within the acceptable level"...Funny how when I went home and checked the level and it was below the mark (L) on the dip stick. Acceptable my ASS!!!!

My info...
2004
8,700miles
1qt/1k miles
3mos.

2004 11,900 miles enthusiest. 7.5 qaurts in 1800 miles. Had to fight big time to get them to replace the engine. Had to do two oil tests and both times 800 miles and engine knocking and oil pressure at 0.And they still did not want to fix it, Accually had to sue nissan. Car was so bad oil fumes would fill the cabin. And mind you this was happening in January. I Could not use the heat and had to drive with windows open and could still smell oil burning.Car was finnaly fixed 4 months ago with a complete long block. No problems yet but then again I have only put on 2100 miles. So we'll see? But good luck Nissan was a pain.

Not trying to highjack but... I noticed the oil is in the middle on the dipstick (between H and L), so my question is... how much oil is missing between the H to the middle? (1/2 quart??? 1quart???) I noticed it was low, so I added about 3/4 quart. What do you guys think?? BTW im running mobile 1.

I'm getting all kinds of knocking form my Z. I will have to check my oil. My oil pressure when idling is always below 1/4 or about 15 psi....

is it a knocking or a rattling? mine was rattling and i think it was because it was low on oil because after the oil change it stopped doing it.

That seems about right for idling, should be {according to mine} around 50 psi at about 70 mph.

When they do these "tests", what keeps you from draining a bit more oil out of the crankcase just to "make sure" you get a replacement engine??/ I would assume they put a paint mark on the drain plug??

Do I do my regular oil change before i go in? Do they change your oil to perform the test? Do they charge you for the oil change?

They seal it with tamper proof tape stuff.

If you tamper with it, they will know.

They charge for the oil change...let them just do it so thay have a record of the problem...

BTW...started test #2!....

Told me to drive it for 700 miles bring it back...they would see how much was lost...retop the oil drive 700 more miles ...see the loss..repeat...then next step.

Year of Z/G: 2003
Miles: 48k when i bought it
Amount of Oil lost per how many miles: 1qt in 600 miles
Lenght of time for you to complete your test: 1 month
Engine replacement (Short or Long Block): longblock

Dont let then just do the short block. My cams were scored from oil depervation and I needed the whole motor. The funny thing is that not even 4k miles later I had to get a new tranny and clutch.

Its a brand new car now at 50k...

I think I may still have a tranny issue but it seems intermitent in 3rd gear. We shall see.. Good luck. Having a good dealer is EVERYTHING!!

Good question. Typically, it's one quart between the top and bottom marks. Is that true for the Z?

You can read your dipstick?

I agree, unless it is a truck, it is almost always 1qt (give or take) between the bottom and top of the crosshatch range.
