Default Flashing LED Security Light ?

A few days ago I brought my new 350Z home from the dealer, and I have a question about the red security indicator light on the dashboard. I have the car parked in my garage with the doors closed but unlocked. The red security light flashes constantly - is this the way it is supposed to work? I was under the assumption that it should only flash as a warning when the car is parked and the doors are locked. Will this constant flashing light eventually wear down my battery?

don't worry about the led draining the battery. It probly draws like 1-2 amp, i'll take 50 yrs to drain your battery.

The LED in my other car blinked as soon as you turned off the ignition.

I think this is just the way they are designing them nowdays

Yep its a dummy proof security feature, its there to ward off teh less cunning would-be theifs. In case you forget to lock your doors the light is there to act as though they are locked.

Remember, theifs always go after the easiest targets, and a flashing red light will make them think twice long enough to move on to teh next car. Keeping valuables out of sight is ALSO a good way to make them move on if you have to leave yours outside.

The flashing light means that the vehicle immobilization system is active and to warn potential thief's. And the LED may take 1-2 milliamps not amps. Big difference.

Also, when you hit the lock button the red light will burn stead while the alarm is setting (20 - 30 seconds) and then start flashing.

Correct on the current flow, Intrepid. Don't know the exact value, but very low. Don't be concerned about a drain on the battery.

yeah, was thinking milliamps, but typed amps instead (think it was from looking at the amps installs in other posts)
