I went out on a date tonight, and when the girl got in the car, she was surprised that it was a two seater. Almost 75% of the people that ride in my car for the first time is surprised that it doesn't have back seats.
It's like they've never been in a car with only two seats before. Like they expected a sports car to have 4 seats.

LOL.
I have yet to figure why this happens. Maybe it is the size of the 350Z: people expect to see four seats. On the other hand look at the S2000. People know that only two seats will fit.

Yeah, it's the novelty of the 2-seater concept. Yes, to most people, it is novel to think that a car could have only two seats. When I first told my dad I had ordered a Z and that it is a 2-seater, his first question was, "Huh? Where does everyone else sit then?"
My parents live overseas and have requested the Z's pics many times since May. I have told them it would be better if they see it in person. They are coming next month. I can't wait for their reaction! And they're as excited about it as I am. Dad has already told mom that he will be the one riding with me from the airport and that she can come with my wife in the tC

LOL - I had this happen yesterday. Pulled up to the security gate, all the guards started talking about how nice my car was, and one of them said, "I bet you can't fit anybody in that back seat". I said, "Nope. Especially since it doesn't have one." Then of course all 3 of them had to lean in my window and check it out.
Yeah this happens all the time for me... I guess we're so use to it, we assume it's common knowledge that a real Z has only two seats.
Whenever I give rides to newbs it goes like this.
*sit down*
*turns around*
"What the?? you have no backseat?!?"
but it's usually followed by something positive like....
"Cool I've never been in a two-seater before!"

I'm surprised this wouldn't be common knowledge, considering how long the Z has been around...
BUT, then again, not everyone is a car buff...and there's a gazillion people out there who view cars solely as a means to get from "Point A to Point B" and don't even know if they have a 4 or 6 cylinder under their hoods...LOL

This is true.
Many people think I have a V8 engine, and are surprised when I tell them it's "only" a V6 . . .
But what a V6 it is!
If you're single or married/dating (without kids) it's one thing, but I (married, with kid) got that a lot when I first got the car. "Great family car!" Yeah, it's not. It's a "for me car" heh.

My mom once finding out it was only a 2 seater called it a "selfish car". I totally agreed with her, because I didn't buy the Zed for her or for my friends; it was for me, myself, and I
Actually later model Z's had 2+2....up thru 1990 at least...I remember them having the longer butt and thinking "Damn..that's funny looking for a sportscar"
Here's a 1990 Z pic with back seat (must have been nice NOT having that strut bar in da back...yeesh...look at the space in the back, especially with the back seat folded down):

Also, I'm getting so used to having two seats that it's getting more and more "practical" everytime I drive it.

Not a "real" Z, imo.
j/k But personally, I would never own a Z with a back seat.
