Not much of an upgrade there.

Anyway, you may think it's a good decision until they release the new model m3 next year with a v8 powerplant.

I have only 100 miles on this 350z and can not wait to start modding and joining this wonderfull comunity.

First mod will be RIMS!! Mine came with some "intersting" 19's. I'll post if you guys want to see them.

Say what?? I think you are nuts, but I guess to each their own. Have fun with the Nissan

Not an upgrade? Perhaps if you are only just going by HP numbers...
And yes (of course) the V8 M3 will kill my 06 but then again I live in germany NOW so I would rather have fun today. And boy do I have fun watching my speedometer bang away at the 168 mph limiter every day I drive home from work.

That's great you got a 350z but BMW being good for nothing except for the name sake? Your kidding right? You think an M3 has "horrible handling"? I think you just need some driving lessons..

You're very lucky to drive that speed.
Over here in Los Angeles you go directly to jail (no simple speeding ticket).( I believe anything over 100mph)

Default have to disagree there...

People who say BMW is a great car are those that changes car every 3 years, not experiencing the extent ownership of the car. By the way, my friend is a current GM at a BMW dealership, who tried to sell me a M3, lol. M3 is nice, but it looks too much like a 3 series without badging, wheels, side flares (like the new Escalade), front end and side mirrors, all of which can be aftermarketed to look like a M3. Anyway, I took a Chevy junk instead of a BMW junk.
I have a 97 M3 that now has 220k miles. Passenger's window does not work. Have some lash in the right rear axle, but that's the worst of it. Had to replace the clutch at 160k miles. Fuel pump went out once. It is very easy to work on. I need to get some suspension bushings replaced. It's not as tight as it was, but at 220k miles it's in awesome shape. The engine is still STRONG. I swear it feels faster than my 06 350z, but I did not buy the 350 because it was the fastest car out there. Maintenance is key with BMWs, as it is with any car.

My $0.02 for the rest of this thread... As far as M3 versus 350z, If I had $55k to spend on a new e46 M3, I'd be driving one. (6-spd) They are awesome machines and very refined. The dual-VANOS (continuously variable cam timing) seems to be much more effective than the 350's equivalent and the BMW's traction control is much less intrusive than the stupid Nissan VDC. My 350 Pings under load below 3k rpm's (on ca 91 octane). There is noticeable gear whine in the 350 tranny. Acceleration is way faster than the 350z, but the 350z can out-handle the M3 on a track. But this is a purpose-built 2-seater sports car versus a 4-adult hauling sports-sedan. Let's hope the 350 handles better. Handling might be a different story on a rough-road (real-world) which is where the M3 excels.

For performance versus dollar, I decided on the 350 and never looked back. I think $55k is too much for me to spend on a car right now. Also, I just love the intimate cockpit of the 350. It just wraps around you. The short-throw 6-spd tranny is a joy to shift and I'll overlook the occasional 2nd-gear crunching when it's cold.

What's my point, I dunno... I love my 350z, but have to give props for the M3 engine and level of refinement. I'll give credit where credit is due...

It's easy to share 2 z's with the wifey... hiz-n-herz... If I bought the M3, it'd just be Hiz and herz would not have a new car... I'd be in the dog-house!

I hate to participate in this type of argument... but I have to back M3to350Z up... SMG does suck... and yes, my previous car before my 350Z was also a SMG M3... that was also why I went down to modding my 350Z to a high revving n/a car, just like a M3.. and this time I chose a stick instead...

cheers,

richie

I think the problem lies with the people not opting to pick 6 sp M/T and then ****ing up the Auto SMG tech to get their fun, and then blaiming BMW for not giving it enough of a boost - **** ya all and go get 6 sp M/T in the first placE!

I'd love to have my wife blow me on the Audobahn at 168!

Amen brotha - not your wife, but my who ever...LOL

See i just have one rant about that, specially with the Z, the placement of the gears and e-brake (even down) makes it hard for the girl to get comfy, i've been told to stop F@cking around with gears - so i put it in 6th and just cruise smiling @ SUVs next to me, but then they complain how the "gear i put it in is closer to them." So i put it in 5th, but then i feel bad for cruising @ over 4k and dont feel like slowing down.

My Question to you guys - do you guys leave it in 6th?

Or
- do you guys leave it in 5th?

Or like me just get soo frustrated between picking and delay exploding?

Haha...

all im saying is tt ur z with the savings and ...then u will forget about m3s. How many modifed FI m3s have u seen. Why havent u seen alot becasue to FI a m3 u would probably have to refinace your house. Lightley modded m3s are all i see and the one FI m3 i have seen is sponserd by companies and doesnt even road race the car. The Z to me is a better medium for tuning and can out perform the m3 dollar wise in every catagorey modded except resale value and this is fact. My boy cant stand the fact that im right on his *** in his m3c when we do highway runs. Slowly with every modd i get closer and closer. As i said before the margin isnt huge . The new m3 now ...i going to be the reason u shld buy a m3.

Angry

"I pulled in yesterday to the nissan dept. No lines, no waiting. No one was there! I wonder why? Because the cars actually work! haha"

No one was there because Nissan service sucks! At least that's been my experience in Vermont. Either they ignore the problem or won't work on your car because of after market parts.
