is it alright to step on the clutch and turn it off ?

cuz every time i turn it off normaly there will be a nasty sound

coming from bottum of the shift ***

and when i step on the clutch and turn it off

theres no sound

what im asking is is that a bad thing to do ?

Don't you leave your car in gear when you park? I always leave it in 1st when I park it and have done so for years, I say you are fine.

In gear w/clutch depressed or out of gear w/clutch depressed or not is all fine when you turn off the engine. However, I would be concerned about the noise it is making! It could lead to other problems if not checked. How many miles on your clutch? Is it slipping at all?

its not sliping but it maks rattle noise when turn off
( no clutch push and no gear )

So lemme understand what you are doing... you depress the clutch, come to a stop, take it out of gear, then release the clutch, THEN turn the key off?

If that's what you do, there should be no problems. I depress the clutch, come to a stop, turn the key off, and then release the clutch. Just a habbit, but either way SHOULD be fine. I park on flat surfacesl; sometimes I leave it in gear after the car is off, sometimes not, but I always use the parking brake (which is all inconsequential). At any rate, not sure what sound you ar hearing, maybe just flywheel or throwout bearing chatter? Try it with the clutch depressed and see if the noise stops, then do it whichever way you like, but you aren't hurting anything if you're out of gear, clutch released and turning the engine off.

Oh, and most people's Z's have some chatter with the clutch released and out of gear; it's nothing to worry about. If you're in a garage, roll the windows down and listen for it when you press and release the clutch; with clutch out, you'll prob hear it. Turning the car off that way, you prob. just hear it more as it spins down.

I have the same thing you are talking about.

It is scary when you turn it off. You get this feeling that the engine just suddenly died like stalling it. My z also is 04 with 36k miles on it so similar to yours. There is nothing wrong that i know of its just the sound it makes when that engine just suddenly stops. I believe the sound is from the shafts still spinning but fuel and air are cut off. Im not 100% sure but I dont think you have a problem and shutting it off with the clutch in or out dosnt make a diference. Also turning it off and puting it in 1st is like adding a dbl safety just incase u forgot your hand brake, but then when you turn on your car you got to remember you are in gear, and not stall.

Point of the story is....Z's have loud one @$$ clutch.

Just like if you halfway engage the clutch in first and hit the gas....makes a lot of ruccus(sp?) as you accelerate

My 2006 Z (6 MT) makes the same sound when I turn the car off with the clutch engaged (car obviously not in gear). It's a pretty horrendous rattling noise...but my clutch doesn't slip while driving and my shifter is pretty precise, so I'm not worried about it yet.

If you're facing down a hill, then you put it in reverse to prevent rolling down the hill should the PB fail. Facing up a hill you should leave it in first. On level surface it really doesn't matter.

my 06MT has 2600 miles on it and the throw out bearing makes alot of noise when the clutch is not engaged, i have owned a few Z's in my 37 years and every single one of them have had this issue if you will.....that is the sound you are hearing from the trans. I believe you could warranty it and have a new one put in but in about 3000mi. it will start making noise again...all that being said, you really have nothing to worry about unless the clutch starts slipping or you have to force the shifter into gear

My fault I didn't describe myself adequately..... releasing the clutch pedal in first gear from a dead stop and accelerating....the clutch makes noise.

The sound you hear is the throwout bearing. It just the nature of the beast. If you dont want to hear the sound, simply press the clutch in, and turn off the car. Our cars just simply have loud trannies and clutches. When driving issues begin to happen (Grinding gears, clutch slippage, not going into gear correctly), then you should be worried. Until then, just drive your car.

I never thought about how I turn the car off. I just turn it off.

its just clutch chatter when engaged and engine comes to a stop. it is usually common on cars w/ upgraded clutches. i knew someone w/ an HKS clutch in a supra that did it alot worse.... no worries guy..

We have a Z06 that is barely used that does the same thing, and it sounds a lot more pronounced than the Z. And I was worried about that, so I tested my cuz's Z06, and found the same noise. My almost 2 year old Z is barely driven, and it makes the same noise your talking about.
