major design flaw
#21
From what I've been told, German engineers do it for safety reasons--at least in the interest of the safety of Germans. Do they switch the gas cap for Australia, England, etc.? Dunno. Did Nissan put the gas cap on the passenger's side on purpose? Doubt it. It was probably done out of convenience (it's already that way on the cars in Japan). But is it a design flaw? In my opinion, no. Heck, I suppose I could just ask the engineers, but they might think I'm even more **** than I already appear to be...

Are the nissan designers retarded?
Isn't it obvious that the gas cap should be on the drivers side.
....
Actually the real reason they did this is so that it is on the
drivers side in Japan! And they know that those stupid americans are already used to the cap being on the wrong side
on their stupid american cars so let the Japanese customer have it the right way and keep more parts the same for left and right hand drive.
Well NISSAN you didn't fool me I see right through your sneaky plot to favor the Japanese consumer over Americans!

actually the biggest hint is the hand brake
this car is for america and Canada
because if u drive the car in Japan, the hand brake is on the other side of the driver, instead, in america, it's right next to the driver.

Just cause the gas CAP is on one side of the car doesn't mean the TANK is too. Isn't the tank basically centered underneath the car and not off to the side where the cap is? What if you have a passenger with you? Not too balanced then huh?

No, no no...you all have it wrong.
The gas cap is on the passenger side to make it easier for your passenger to show the proper graditude for allowing him/her to ride in the Z by pumping the gas for you.

So when you pull into the gas station, and get out to fill up the tank, you're not opening your driver door INTO THE GAS PUMP.
Talk about door dings a plenty.

Jersey drivers stick out like sore thumbs when they're driving in New York City. 90% of the time I see a bad driver and I look to find they have Jersey plates. BWHAHAHAHA!
I'm just kidding but there is no love for Jersey in NYC.

I've noticed that on cars with a single exhaust pipe, the fuel fill is on the opposite side. Maybe it is a safety issue of overfilling...
With the fuel fill on the "right" side, we won't be waiting in line with all those lefties (as I do with my Maxima).

Ok, who actually pulls that close to a gas pump??? I park a good distance because I know the hose will reach. I have an Acura and I like it on the left side because it's more convenient. It's not a big deal in all, but the whole dinging your car door up is a little ridiculous.

I agree it's not a big deal. Just wish manufacturers would get together and standardize it. Before they started putting arrows on the fuel gauge it was a real nuissance. Not for my own vehicles, but so many times I have been in a rental car making a guess with a 50/50 chance and finding out after I pulled up to the pump got out and found out once again I better not buy a lottery ticket that day.

In my opinion, the passanger side is the CORRECT side for the gas cap.
Why?
Simple.

Nope, Nissan actually made the right choice, following in the footsteps of Audi, BMW, Mercedes, etc.

Geez we're starting to complain about some unimportant things here. First the antenna, then the door handles, then the gas cap. What are we gonna complain about next? How puny the horn sounds?
Has anyone heard the horn? I hope it doesnt sound puny.

(BTW it kind of annoyed me that it was possible to accidentally set of the alarm. I hope that is a rare occurrence.)

Word on the Turnpike is that they're getting rid of full service next year sometime...
