Default 350Z vs...911?

Hi all,
I have a 2006 350Z track model with MREV and a popcharger. My friend has a 996 Porsche Carrera 4S and he wants to race me on the track. Do you guys think I can stand up to him? The 996 4S is 4wd and has 320 hp, 0-60 is 5.0 seconds, but it is a Porsche. What do you feel?

Thanks,
Johnny

You will get owned. Against a base C2, maybe, but 4S, forget it.

Haha, thanks for the input guys. But remember, the 996 S stands for widebody, not more power like the new ones do, that's why I was considering it. And 4wd might actually hinder him on the track. I guess there's only one way to tell

It depends on if he can drive.

BTW - what kind of track are you talking about?

996 S still had more power than Non-S. 4S, on paper, is slightly slower than the 2WD S b/c of more weight and drivetrain loss. Porsches in general are quicker than they look on paper; their rear weight bias helps them hook up like a mothere and they have less drivetrain loss due to engine position. Let us know how you do.

Road Course. I'm thinking of Buttonwillow Raceway in California. Either that or Laguna Seca.

That's what I was thinking. Everyone was talking about drag racing, and I was thinking... hmm he said porsche not rustang....

I guess there is no way to know until you try. It should be good fun. It will really depend on both drivers abilities more than anything. Just because the porsche may have more potential doesn't mean he will be able to extract it.

You should do it and let us know how it turns out.

Are you an experienced driver? Then you already know that the Porsche will be a challenge on the straight-a-ways. Are you an inexperienced driver. If yes then you are dead meat.

I have racing school and track day experience, I usually run with the advanced groups. Buttonwillow is a nextremely technical track, power is not an advantage there. Of course Laguna Seca would be more of a challenge.

if you beat him, you beat the driver and not the car

Sure you can beat him, but its a drivers race.

I've raced against a Ford GT. (The super car)

He smoked me in the straights but I reeled him in in the turns. Obviously the Ford GT driver had a vastly superior track car with much higher power and better cornerning capability, but more than anything else, it comes down to the driver.

You can do the same thing with Vets, M3's and Porches all day long. Heck, I've seen a fully modified 4banger POS CIVIC spank the hell out of everything else on the track.

Anything can happen on a road course.

Wasn't thinking road course (cause everyone here ussually talks drag racing); road course is diff. story; it'll def. be more of a driver's race. Given the cars and equally skilled drivers, though, the Porsche will likely win, but if you are a better driver, you have a chance.

I've beaten many better cars on account of them being inexperienced. Lotuses (loti?), Boxter S's, M3's. On the other hand, far more experienced guys in oldschool integra DC2R's have spanked my a$$. You have a good chance beating him if
a) he's inexperienced,
and
b) you've driven on the track a couplem more times.
