Oh, and strap in a video camera. I'd LOVE to see a Z going around Laguna Seca (my favorite track in GT4); man, I'd love to take my car on that track...

Step 1: Run the Porsche into a ditch.
Step 2: Drive like hell away from the scene.

He'll definitely smoke you in the corners but it maybe pretty close in the straights.

My buddy has a boxster. I can beat him, stock for stock, in the straights but he leaves me in the corners.

I thought the boxster's handling wasn't any better.

We're talking a Carerra here.. not a Boxster.

You had better have some major skills and may want to consider lightening you car to help win the weight war (pretty close stock for stock). AWD drive will only help him in the corners and you need help in the straights AND the corners.

Unless he's a real doorknob he will have you unless you reduce weight and increase your HP and TQ (probably 50+). But then again, he should for $80K+.

If you drop 10K-15K in your car you will eat him alive which is pretty amazing.

But if you're talking one friendly race, do your best and get some good experience out of it. I prefer an underdog race anyway. If he wins, he's supposed to.. if you win, major bragging rights and you instill a little buyer's remorse in him.. hahaha...

You will not be able to take him on if all you have is an intake/plenum. If you are running stock suspension you will get raped. Get a good coilover setup, more bolt-ons ,a tune, 3.9 final drive, clutch/flywheel, and know how to drive and shift like a god then you might have a chance. And if you think him having AWD will hurt him in the corners, think again. He will own you u. His car overpowers ur Z in everyway. Plus u have an 06 so u weigh more. His rear engine will hook up better so he will have better acceleration. His AWD will get rid of understeer in the corners. His flat 6 has a better top end so he will dominate in the straights. His brakes will last much longer than urs (unless you have brembos). You are comparing a 30K car to a 90K car... Anyways GL and post what happens.

You'll get him...only if he drives like a grandma and/or he has raisins for *****.

Otherwise, his car is an unbelievably well-engineered monster...as per Walter Rohl.

Good luck anyway, and may the force be with you.

Thanks for all the input guys. To the above poster, yeah we do get to race on Laguna Seca, it's pretty dammed awesome. And yeah, this is a friendly race, this guy's a good pal of mine, so I'm not going to dump 15k into the car just for this race. We'll see how it goes, it's just interesting because on paper, the 2 cars aren't that much different. That really says something for what you get in a Z.

Kershaw in SC, Road Atlanta's only 3ish? hours from Ashville or Charlotte, There's a roval at Lowes (charlotte) motor speedway, VIR in Virginia. Plenty of options, look at the track's schedules for trackdays and contact info (doing a door to door SCCA or NASA road race is a whole other affair).

If he has my driving skills you will win... A lot of races are decided by the driver not the car.

Again.... Don't forget to mount a camera so you can video this. It will at least give you 25hp to the rear wheel!

Sweet. Can you just go at certain times and pay to run the track or are you a member of a club or something? Man, I wish we had a good road course in the Houston area you could just go to and run w/o having to pay an arm and a leg in fees/dues...
