Question Fairlady Z

Hi, I just joined the forum and I have a question. Is there any differences between the USDM 350Z and the JDM Fairlady Z besides the steering wheel side?? The reason I am asking is because I am just about to join the air force and am looking into importing one over here. I have already found a supplier to import and license one. just want too know is 350Z parts will fit on it with out major modifications. Thanks!!

Welcome.

Yes. The 350Z USDM and JDM are different. Visit nissanja.com.

Import a 350Z JDM and convert it to US DOT specifications? Forget it. You cannot afford it.

There is a guy who does that for a living converting JDM Skylines, Fairladys, Silvia... You name it he will do it. He specializes in Skylines though my friend bought a R34 GTS-T from him for 40,000.

Just replace the 350Z emblem with Fairlady Z if you want it to look like you got it from Japan. Save a crapload of cash and buy a US version. They are identical (except steering wheel) other than maybe a few items here and there. Even the aftermarket stuff is identical unless you get side skirts.

To follow up with what Daivd said just check out the JDM LED tail lights. $515 just to switch from red to clear.

I would rather have a full JDM Fairlady than a 350Z with Fairlady badges. That just seems kind of a cheap substitute.

if you are willing to pay the dough then do it. as far as the parts, as stated pretty much everything is the same so you should be able to buy aftermarket parts for the USDM model no prob. I think most guys just don't understand why you'd pay the extra cost for a JDM model if its nearly identical? pre-350gt skylines, silvias, even type r tegs and civic's I can understand. but importing something you can get here is kinda.....well.....dumb IMO.

if you're going to import a car here....import a car that you CAN'T BUY HERE.

Why in the world would you import a Z? And if you really are going to, how about you just pay me to buy you a Z and I'll slap on the Fairlady sticker along with the sidemarkers and set of rims and you give me the extra $10,000 that you'll spend on importing that car in?

Aren't the US versions more powerful? I thought Japan had some sort of power limit regulations over there that were stricter than ours.

like everyone else says, i think importing a 350z is really pointless. on another note, a R34 gts-t for 40k is an absolute rip-off. i would never buy that.

by the time you graduate basic training and your tech school, you will change your mind. you will not make enough money to import one anyways unless you get stationed in japan. the cost of living allowance is high. if you are serious about this, save your cash out there for 3-4 years. i told my cousin to do it and he did not listen. he could have had an easy 40-50k while he was stationed out there for 3-4 years. i saved my cash for over a year stationed in england and i had 15k just from cost of living allowance alone. this was all when i was an E-3/E-4. i made more as an airman living overseas than i do as a SSgt being stateside. if you do this, you need to import a skyline or something else. importing a Z is just a worthless idea. hell your fellow airman will make fun of you for wanting to do it. i would not classify it as fake for putting a fairlady badge on a u.s. spec Z. it is all the same car period. listen to these guys and do the right thing. hell, i would recommend to save up all that cash and go buy a house with it. at least the house wont depreciate and you can make money off it.

good luck getting orders to japan. i hope you know that once you sign the contract to join, they already pick your base out and assign you before you even know. i should know this because i have a new airman inbound to my base and he does not show up until 30 Nov 2007 (LOL!!). good luck. if you need any basic training advice, shoot them my way.

On that website listed are these ex-motorex cars or legalized another way. Im in the market for a r32 gt-r and i always thought no one could legalize them after motorex went under. It seems no one really ever knows whats going on with the skylines legalization. Some say yes some say no it would be cool if we could get a stright answer.
