may be stupid, but i just need to vent
was this to vent or to brag...its no different then the kids in my neighborhood, highland park, they parents have the it cars and they get what they want - m3's are the benchmark for them
Toss him a few bucks every month towards the water bill...maybe then he'll leave you alone.
Seriously though, when I lived at home I had a different car but I cared for it equally. I washed it almost every week, and waxed it every two months or so during nice weather. I never faced my parents telling me I would attract negative attention or anything (then again it wasn't a sports car), but they did think I was a bit obsessive about it. Maybe I am though. Part of my joy of driving is knowing that my car looks good while I'm doing it. I wouldn't worry about your dad. If you want to spend time washing your car then do it. Now if it starts promoting heated arguments between the two of you, then I would suggest trying to have a mature conversation and ask him truly why he discourages your habit. If I'm in his shoes, I am thinking "I just bought my son a $20k + vehicle and I sure hope he appreciates and takes pride in it". Ultimately that's the sentiment my parents had (as far as I know), since they paid for about 75% of my last car.
Good luck man...dad's are tricky sometimes.

Could be that car thefts in Plano are high and he doesn't want your shiny car bringing unwanted attention... My girlfriends dads Tahoe was stolen last Thursday morning from his driveway up there.

I give u props for not washing it in so long..cuz i dont think i could ever last for months like you!
omg this is ****in ridiculous...got into another argument with the stupid dad...took away my keys because i wont put the front license plate back on. this is ridiculous i want to move out...i cant ****in do anything to the Z.
Dude, I used to drive my dad's Altima 3.5 before I got my Z. He told me to take care of it. I used to wash it every week too, but my mom would give **** about washing it every week, too. It was a pain in the a$$. I got my Z and she still gives me **** for washing my z every week. As long as you live in your parent's house, you're in their world. But look at the advantages, you save money for Z and other stuff instead of using it on bills. Either way, you still lose in a way. If you want to keep the z, you might have to put up with it. But I would follow another member's suggestion here. Tell him that it is a fine vehicle and that you want to keep it that way. Tell him that a lot of the stuff that builds up on the car after use is hard to get out after a week and would be easier to do in frequent 1 hour washes instead of once a month 5 hour washes. He will empathize with you. Try it out. But whatever you do, dont talk back with an attitude over it. That will get your keys taken away. Oh and for the front license plate, get a Z bracket, it doesnt attach to the bumper but the grill area. Looks good, too.
Well as far as the front license plate goes, if it's required in your state for legal reasons then I could sort of understand your father's position.
However I must say that if I ever get my kid a car it will be his/her car, and they can do with it what they want. But they only get one.

Moving out and buying your own car would solve every problem you listed.
Man up or stfu!!!

J/K You should wash it anyway. I wash mine once a week at least, and it stays outside.
For some reason I see a fenomena in Z not seen for other cars. People just take really good care of it and love the car. I have an IS 250 and it begs to get a fraction of the attention I give to the Z. Its too lovable. I'll bet the depreciation will not hit it too hard.

ahhhhhh the m3... fast lil fkr
yep im 21 - mother bought my Z touring 05! She just shakes her head at me when she sees da filth on my car.
I washed it the other day after i left it for 4 months...
I bought the most powerful water pressure cleaner.... took me 3 hours to clean the fkn weels...
I love when the kiddos from highland park come up to OU...park their M3's in the freshman lots...and end up driving something like a Ford Explorer because they want to call attention to thier car by driving 60 through campus and end up with a billion door dings. Sorry for the rant. First day of school.
Anywho...I understand the frustration with the car washing thing...but its your car...take care of it. Secondly, the license plate thing is not that big of a deal, I had a friend from Plano who never put his front plate on, and never got a ticket.
