I think it's a bit funny that the Mazdaspeed6 performs closely to, or even outperforms, the RX-8 in a straight-line. MS6 probably does ok on a road course too, although the 8 will own it handling-wise. If I had to choose, I would go with the MS6 and spend an extra $1500 or so upgrading the suspension, and then maybe swap in some RX-8 wheels if they fit (and I think they do). Then you get a decent-looking sedan instead of the RX-8 ***** lookalike, you get all wheel drive (even though it is FWD most of the time because it is electronically actuated), and you have a turbo platform to build on for engine modifications.

I imagine the mazdaspeed3 has the potential to be even faster because it gets the same power plant but has a lower curb weight. Looks are a subjective thing I guess.

Well thank you sry. At least someone has my same view. BTW, the mazdaspeed 6 is performing very well in the SCCA challenge and Touring Car. So, fear not, the 6 came to rock and roll on the track too. I have seen, and it does very well.

My guess is that the Mazda RX-8 designers were females?? Here's why:

Start with this:

Then Add This:

Finally...add THIS:

jajajajaja. Pretty funny. I acutally think the doors are functionally good in terms of people with family. What really bums is the engine and the slim rims and tires. If they did a decent mazdaspeed, with turbos, who knows...

OMFG!!!!!

This just keeps getting better and better.

Ok, I have a simple one for you then mister "car physics expert". Does a Viper with 535 lbs of torque handle well? How about a C6 Z06 with 470 lbs of torque? Oh, and FYI, these are RWD too.

448 lbs of torque for a Ferrari is not much? (This was a bad example on my part because they do not rely on torque like the two examples I just gave above).

On a related note, how in the hell does torque have ANYTHING to do with handling?????

because too much torque could cause the tires to spin and slide especially a rwd car w/o a lsd, like out of an apex turn. im not saying all cars with alot of torque dont handle well, in the rx8's case if it have 100ft lbs more of torque for instance i dont think id would handle as well IMO.

Have you ever heard of throttle modulation? Do you drive with the pedal down 100% of the way 100% of the time you are behind the wheel? I dont think so.

Just so you know, the gas pedal is not an on/off switch. The amount of gas given is related to the force you press on the pedal.

Just because one car has more torque than another does not mean squat when comparing the handling characteristics of them.

The Viper has tons of torque and is used extensively in circuit racing. Also, from what I have read in car magazines comparing it to the Z06, it is easier to drive in a road course; and it has more torque I think.

I can't believe someone is arguing that too much torque makes a bad handling car while no torque makes it corner carver, lmfao.

i think the 8 would out handle a z anyday its perfect for twisties because of its lack of torque. too much torque could cause the tires to spin and slide especially a rwd car w/o a lsd, like out of an apex turn. im not saying all cars with alot of torque dont handle well, in the rx8's case if it have 100ft lbs more of torque for instance i dont think id would handle as well IMO.

Not having a lsd doesn't make the rear end more tail happy, in fact the very opposite is true with an open-end differential. When turning hard under acceleration only one tire gets power (which may spin) while the other stays firmly planted. The whole point of having a LSD is to get more power to both wheels. It's a good thing in the right hands, just like having more power! Second of all there is no such thing as an "apex turn". The apex of a turn is the peak of the turn. It is not a type of turn like a "hair-pin turn" or an "off-camber turn". All turns have apexes.

Anything else you care to enlighten us on?

I dont see how you can even compare a z to an rx8. Rx8 doesnt look fluid on bit. It looks liek a bunch of pieaces were put together and welded on. its no smooth looking liek a z. And yeha liek u said there is o comparison with speed haha

I think the 8 looks pretty good AFTER those ugly *** fenders!

Edit: a buddy of mine pre-ordered a RX-8 and he was quoted one hp numbers when the vehicle came the numbers were down, do to emissions so they gave him an extended warranty.

Personally, I think all around it looks like a PT cruiser mated with an rx7.

Wink

roast: Did you read this hyperlink quicksilver posted ? Looks I'm not the only one who doesn't think like you. Check 9th post from the top. Its just logic. You have a sports car with a sh*ty engine and you have a very good engine in sh*ty cars. Mate both and you get...Good car+good engine. Voila!

You can call it PX-8.
