Do base models exist?
I think you would have to order one. I've looked at dozen's of dealership's on the net and haven't found a single base model. Maybe after the "newness" of the Z settles down a little and there are more cars sitting on lots, we'll see some base models.
I've seen the Base on a few dealer sites in Cali but not many.
Remember the Base is the "loss leader" for promotion; it has the least profit margin so dealers ain't gonna order many.
I'm sure you can place an order for one though.

I contacted Nissan North America (via phone) when I was shopping for a Z. I commented that their inventory for alot of dealers wasn't updated. I would find a base model on Nissanusa.com and then contact the dealer to find out it was sold a week prior. Anyways, we got to talking and he mentioned that the base model will be discontinued in '04. I didn't get a name of who I was speaking to but it was about 6 weeks ago.
Yeah, I saw a Base model today, it was in my garage!
They're out there, just few and far between. Is it going to be a collector's item now that they're discontinuing them? Sweet!
I loved they way they call the base the "350Z" model. I guess 'base model' does sound kinda cheap. Hey Dave, what model did you get. Well, I got the 350Z model. No, I know you got a Z, but which one. The 350Z. Dammit Dave!!

I really do think they should get rid of the base model. No one carries it and they just have it so they can say "You can get a Z for 26K".
Yes the enthusiast is a couple thousand more but I think it would just be better to wait until you have that 2K. Plus if you find the right dealer you can get the enthusiast for close to the same price.

Got my base model last Friday. Mossy Nissan here in San Diego seems to be ordering a small number of base models each week with the same options mine came with: mats, aluminum kick plates, splash guards and aerodynamic package. They are selling them at MSRP and were very good to deal with. I got mine from the Oceanside dealership. You have to move very quickly, they sell much quicker than the touring and track models which are readily available. I called right after it came in, it hadn't even gone through dealer prep. I gave the salesmen a credit card deposit to prevent it being sold before I got there. It's a fantastic car. I could afford a top-of-the-line model, but the base has the features that I care about.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I've been looking for a Silverstone base model Z for over a month now with no luck. Can I walk into a dealership and order one if I don't mind waiting the 3 weeks to one month?
Shemp: was that $25,150 out the door?...and if so please let me in on how you pulled that off.

Stefano,
The $25,150 was before TT&L ($1900 off sticker). I got lucky and found this at a dealer in McAllen which was worth the trip for HOU.
There is a BASE Silverstone located here in HOU @ Baker Nissan South. I know for sure that they are selling Z's at sticker and not a penny under/over. It's on their website for $27,254. Give them a call at (713) 661-9955. Good luck to 'ya.

Do you all not mind missing out on cruise control? That is the killer for me, I'd get SO many tickets without cruise control. I used to speed a ton in my younger days, and I keep myself in check these days by popping the cruise control on going to and from work.
