Default Slid into by a BMW745.. No Damage!

I was stopped at a light this morning in a very heavy rain and I got bumped in the rear by a young girl driving her daddy's BMW 745! It was a good shot and I expected to see damage but was very surprised to find none.. Just an imprint of the front license plate in the dirt on my bumper. I washed it off and took a close look.. Nothing!! Now if we could just teach an 18 year old how to drive.. It may save someone else from a problem.. I asked her what she did to cause this and instead of holding the ABS brakes down, she pumped them and the car just didn't stop.. I told her to go home and have her daddy read the owners manual to her..

I've got a friend that works for BMW--he says that over 80% of those 745 owners have rear ended someone because of that computer lock that's supposed to hold the car in place at stop lights, etc. They think they've got it set up right, but "bump" and they find out they don't.

What lock is this? I haven't heard of that. It sounds like they practically have the car driving itself now!!

It's like the Ferarri F1 system. Kinda holds you in place while you're at a stop light. But you have to engage it.

Let's put it this way. The BMW service reps working on these cars went to a three day training class before they knew how to work everything in that car. I just can't believe they sell those things without sending the would be owners through the same kind of thing!

Steve, glad to hear it wasn't anything serious. I think a back rub wasn't too much to ask.

You might want to get it looked at anyway. Your rear fasica is urathene(sp?), and can take a good deal of abuse without showing any damage. The bumper underneath it however could very well be dented/deformed (you said it was a pretty good bump). While it is probably OK, the fact that is has been hit might have recuded its effectivness in a subsequent crash. I for one would want verification that all is well just for peace of mind.
