I hit debris on the freeway and lost a small piece...
of my car's grille. It's the little 6-inch piece on the upper grille bar (I have an '06). Anyway, changing lanes, it's dark, moving freeway speeds and before I could react I see a tire carcass between lanes in the lane striping and I run over it . TWACK!!! RUMBLE, RUMBLE!! ...the worst sound I never want to hear under my car.
I pull over at the next exit and see the piece missing and the lower spoiler has spiderweb-like cracks in it from the impact. Fortunately, that appears to be the bulk of the 'damage'.
I'm going to the dealer Monday to order/buy a new part...
NOT HAPPY... Don't bother telling me I'm an idiot...I'm kicking myself as I type...

Sorry to hear about that...yeesh..I have to play slalom course of the highway sometimes to avoid pieces of re-tread tires!
You can, of course, blame those long haul truckers for that. Since truck tires are very large and more expensive to replace with brand new ones...Most truckers will go the cheap route and get their existing tires re-tread (just strips of rubber glued on, I think).
When the tire reaches a certain temp., the re-treads come loose and give you a nice thing to look forward to during your weekday commute or Sunday morning drive!
That's WHY I call truckers, sorry *** m*therF*ckers!! They're a sportscars worst enemy!

I don't think you are an idiot. Sometimes these things happen.
I clipped the top of a dead armadillo. It was in the center of the road which had very little and rough shoulder and I had oncoming traffic in the other lane. Luckily it was low enough to miss the bumber and just snagged some metal under my car.

Actually if it's just the grill then it's not replacable unless you buy an entire bumper assm., but you can trim out the grill and replace it with a nice aftermarket grill. Just do a search for aftermarket grills and save a lot of money.

You did the right thing, doing some evasive maneuver at speed without time to factor in all the variables might have left you spinning across the freeway causing much more damage.
Have you adjusted your headlights yet?
I have heard even with the new 06 lights they are still aimed to low and don't give you enough reaction time even at legal speeds. I know my 04 was aimed at the ground, I could overdrive them at 30mph.

Dont buy from your local dealer! They will charge you list or even inflated list!
Our pricing on our factory parts for forum members and on our web site is 20-25% off MSRP!
Which part is it exactly? the one that goes over the tow hook cover?

GREAT NEWS: I went to the local dealership in Ontario and ordered the part for only about $14!! Yeahhhh!!!
I was really worried that I'd have to buy a new bumper for such a small, missing part...
Anyway, it comes in on Thursday!!
Thanks all for your comments!!
I haven't noticed this condition...they seem okay to me but I'll check when I drive it next.
