You could take off trim like the engine cover and some brackets, but it'll only save you a couple pounds tops.

The hood is already pretty light, so you're really not going to save much weight unless you go dry carbon. The fender is really light too, so that won't save you much weight either.
If you're really serious about the weight, lose the AC compressor!

I wouldn't go that route because I personally don't want to compromise my comfort that much. Hehe. If you're gonna delete the AC, you might as well completely gut the interior, install race seats and a FIA spec roll cage.

But I was REALLY serious about the weight, so I dumped the Z and got an Elise.

Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. Any rotating mass, especially unsprung weight will really increase your performance. Don't go to some stupid DU(m)B wheels, stick to 18 and 19 race rims.

Booooo.....

well i got weighed tonight... it was a LOT heavier than I expected...

'04 1/2 base... scale said 3305lbs including me (175lbs) and 50lbs of gas(8.5gallons)... subtract me and add 70lbs for a full tank.... and thats a curb of 3200.... even with all that **** (60lbs worth) taken out of the car I'm STILL 12 lbs over the 3188 nissan claims... nissan was only about 70 pounds off....

I seriously doubt the aero-kit, splash guards and floor mats weigh 70lbs.

As far as I'm concerned it's even more reason to strip this porky pig.

been drinking weihenstephaner since i got home to drown my sorrows..... mmmm

I have the OEM spoiler so I figured I didn't have it and didn't look for it, although that's what got me started gutting the rear out. Someone made a thread about the weight before, but I can't find it. Maybe someone else knows??

Nissan engineer, "If they don't buy the wing, we throw a brick in their trunk."

I'm pretty sure the weight comes with all Zs without Nismo wings from factory as my Z had it even though I have the OEM wing.

I'm also pretty sure the weight is there so that the weight would help bring the hatch down if you don't have the nismo wing from factory (which would help the hatch shut with its weight).

BTW, it's in the center of the hatch right in front (toward the front of car) of the latch. There's 4 bolts holding it in place.

That's because the claimed weight of 3188Lbs. is without fluids. No coolant, oil or gas.

I doubt that 20 gallons of gas, 5 quarts of oil, 10 quarts of coolant, an unspecified amount of transmission oil, grease, and power steering/brake fluid, only weigh 60lbs.

I know that in 2004 1/2 they made changes to the car that would have added weight and nissan never updated the figures for 2005. Since mine is an '04 1/2 that could at least explain some of the discrepancy.

By definition, curb weight is the weight of the vehicle full of fluids and ready to go, not including the weight of passengers and cargo. Rarely will manufacturers list a dry weight because that would remove all relevancy to gross weight for your average person. If for some reason they do list dry weight, it will almost always be noted as dry, since curb weight by its very definition includes all fluids.

hehe I just read your thread a few days ago! very nice!

I got my work cut out for me huh

I have to replace the car as my daily driver before I even think about going that far.... personally I wouldnt remove the strut brace unless the cage had a cross member to do the same thing....but that's only because my application would be for road racing.... you are going to have yourself a very nice drag car when all is said and done.. nice work man...

Sorry, got bikes on the brain.

Car curb weights are full of all fluids except gas.

I removed the wiper fluid reservoir last night, think of a whole jug of Tide hanging off your front bumper. I was surprised.
