Default Courtesy Nissan in Richardson, TX...not so courteous

Watch out for Courtesy Nissan, charged my girlfriend $47 to change out a fuse b/c her back tailights were not working.

Pretty shady IMO. And the guy had the nerve to tell her "I didn't charge you for the fuse". I almost puked when I heard that.

I guess ultimately it's her fault. I told her it was a fuse and to look through our service manual, then I would show her how to change it.

$47 though????

So their time and labor ought to be free?

Tough way to make a living.

I'd be pissed off that my girl friend wasn't clever enough to check the fuses herself ... or at least bring the car to me to fix.

I think something like that should have been a no charged glad we could help you ma'am issue. Word of mouth can work both ways. A happy customer will be back but a screwed customer will go elsewhere and tell their friends. A simple curtousy fuse change can do wonders.

They are a business and they are out to make money..... I see nothing wrong if your GF "OK" the work.

Usually diagnostic is $75.

I don't think what they did is WRONG per se. It's just stupid and not very business-savvy. I routinely give customers small freebies here and there when I know that in the long run, making them happy will increase the chances that they'll come back to me first when there's something big that they need. And it works all the time. I waived $1600 worth of charges for this one guy, and now have a $120k per year service contract with his group. Had I stuck him with that $1600 tab, he could have easily taken his $120k elsewhere.

You may be an owner of a business but most employees will get fired if they "comp" their labor . . .

Rear power outlet on my VW Passat didn't work from the start. Never checked the fuses, why would I, it never worked. Told them it didn't work when I brought it in for service, no charge, it was a fuse they said.

Nope, I'm a project manager for IBM. We are encouraged to look at the 'big picture'. Mind you, we don't waive charges without management approval.

For their $47 they end up with some bad press. Its not like they had to hook up the OBDII or anything. If all they did was check the fuse and replace it, that is just bad business. did she buy the car there? If so, that is even worse. If not, she will never patronize them again. Stupid stupid stupid business decision.

I agree 100%. Some people just don't realize that a little "goodwill" goes a long way.
My Z threw a code. I took it to a local shop that I frequently deal with and they diagnosed and cleared the code for free. It's places like this where I continue to do business over and over again.
And somebody mentioned free labor? Please, how long does it take and how hard is it to change a fuse?

This is a second person story, and I see no invoice. Lacks credibility.

In my opinion, most good shops will some what look the other way on a minor thing like a fuse or very minor problem. Like Les Swab tires will normaly fix a tire that has a hole in it for free and ask you to remember them when you need new tires. It is just a way of making a possible new long term customer. Not gouging them so they feel cheated and never come back.

Courtesy has a long history of good service and support for the Nissan community. I have ordered many parts from them as they are one of the few to stock SR20DET specific parts from Japan, as well as many performance aftermarket parts at a fair price. This is surprising to hear someone with an issue with them.

Does CN work for a profit or do they give away their labor for nothing? People are downright cheap.
