Way To Solve All The Car Delivery Probs.
First off, many of you seem heated, rightfully so, that you have no idea when you are getting your cars. I personally really wanted to get a Z but can't really afford one right now, so I am ordering a Mini Cooper S (17" wheels, 6 Speed, 167HP, but easy to get to 240). ANYWAY when you order one they give you a number, and you can look up the status of your car ON THE MINI SITE. Not only that, but because it comes from BMW, the dealers are 100% on top of their game, it's really amazing. They know the EXACT status of each indiviual car being made, and are able to tell you what part of the process it is in. Anyway, if BMW can handle this Nissan should be able to as well.

Is this Zcar.com? Why are you ****** bagging on his Cooper S? I said the same goddamn thing yesterday. When you order a BMW, EVERYONE knows what the hell is going on during the construction process.
I wish I could be there to see a Cooper S hand you your *** at an autoX should you ever attend one.

Ahhh, haters...yes we are used to you. Oh and about the "go-kart"
R&T: (On the Non supercharged Mini Cooper w/15's)
.Our slalom test revealed that the Mini can thread through the cones with moderate understeer and keep a blistering average speed of 67.6 mph, besting any current BMW, any Ferrari, and most Porsches. (w/15-in tires) . The skidpad test showed the modest steady-state grip of the Cooper's winter tires, with the car exhibiting heavy understeer and barely holding on at 0.79g. Just imagine what lower-profile higher-performance standard 15-in. dry-weather tires would do to improve the Mini's cornering grip.
How about 17-in and a super charged Engine?
Anyway, I too will be buying a 350Z, in about two years, when it is a convertable and/or comes with a supercharged engine.
Enjoy the Z's guys! Baddest car out there, for real

sorry droid, I was not ripping the guy. I don't need the other guys rubbing this crap in my face about how great their car co.'s customer service is. It's bad enough we have to scrape for each tid bit of info. BTW I would never go to an auto cross anyway.

Thanks for your post LA-Z. I think most of us know you were just being helpful, shedding some light on how cleanly the pre-order process can be accomplished. Nissan's first stab at it hasn't been a total disaster, but I'm sure they will learn from their mistakes, and improve upon it for the next time.

Just curious if the Mini was offered as a pre- order. I've seen a few on the road so I know that right now they are just a plain old order. It's kind of a different situation when you pre- sell the very first batch of cars to come off the assembly line. But yeah, Nissan could have handled information distribution better. I'm still happy with what I'm getting. I want to buy a sports car not customer service.
Isn't this the first time Nissan has had a pre-order program like this? I'm sure it's an old hat to BMW. They've got their ducks in a row by now. BMWs are more expensive and have a lot more money to throw at that kind of development I'd figure.
Although it would be kind of cool, I for one don't really care where they're at in the process till it's done and on the way.

I was very surprised that the first two replies were haters talking smack. Hey LA-Z, I hope you know that this site is full of positive good people who value others opinions and Im sorry that the first two replies to your very first (or second maybe) thread at my350z.com had to be like that.
I for one am not considereing a Mini simply cuz its interior styles and textures are too german-esque, and I actually prefer a little more "middle-class" in my interior designs. (you know like below german interiors and above american.) I guess Im just a japanese car kinda guy!

I am not ripping you. I just think it sucks that I am spending 30k on my ride and yours is about half that. Your customer service is 20 times better!!! Plus I ordered March 1 and I got a T track #. I might be in my ride before it snows here....maybe..Peace
Actually I took no offense to the first two threads. I am a DIE HARD Z fan, (ironically enough never liked BMW's, I live in LA where there are tons of them but the Mini S blew me away) and I've owned two 90's Z, a 94 2+2 and 93 TT. But I'm going to have to wait to get the car of my dreams, the 350Z, for a year or two. At least until they come out with the R or S class you know they will. Anyway I hope you guys, who can def. appreciate a great car, can appreciate the Cooper S, which has great mod possiblities and drives and handles like a dream. Once again, good luck, hope you get your cars sooner rather then later.
Oh and they did have a sort of Pre-Ordering plan. You had to be on a list and they went down that list, NO DEPOSIT nessasary. When it was my turn I ordered the exact car I wanted, again with NO DEPOSIT. In fact, if the car shows up, and I don't want it, I don't buy it and I don't pay a dime. Very impressive the way they handled the ordering process. This is not all dealers though, some were charging 5K over MSRP, which is freaking stupid. i got mine for MSRP. Later guys.

Very true. The one downside is there is only one dealer on the whole WEST COAST that I could find that wasn't charging over MSRP. That was a pain. BMW has NO problem about charging a premium for their cars.

LA-Z, I happen to love the Mini Cooper. Great little car with some spunk and good handling. Sorry that you have to wait to get your Z, but when you do you'll know it was worth the wait. Good luck with the new home!
Thanks for your input on other pre-order processes...

As in Nissan, Toyota, BMW, etc., some dealers are fantastic, and some are not.
My friend is STILL waiting to get his Mini Cooper S. He was originally told it was a 2 year wait. He, like anyone, said "no way" and bought his from the East coast. Even so, the pre-order (yes, pre-order) is expected to be delivered in January or February, due to the options he chose. Some of the options are just not available yet, such as auto-sensing wipers and upgraded stereo. Upgraded stereo has a new wiring harness, etc.
The point I am trying to make is that I think what BMW is doing regarding online checking is great. As far as dealers on top of things over Nissan... that is not true. Not even close. Some dealers may be, and some Nissan dealers will be better than some BMW dealers.
My Nissan dealer has been incredible. My friends BMW dealer treats him like a second-rate citizen. This is not true, I would guess, for all Nissan dealerships, nor all BMW dealerships.
Mini Cooper S is an awesome car. Very cute. Nice retro look.
The 350Z is completely awesome in a different way.
Have fun in your new S,
Todd
