Default Getting a 350Z stick or auto

hi all, Im in the market for a 350Z. I was at a dealer this morning and saw two on the lot that i really like, an 06 enthusiast daytona blue for $29,200 AUTO, and other 06 silverstone for $27,000 manual. I really want to get the manual now the problem is i dont know how to drive manual, ive never driven a manual in my whole life. My friends tells me to get the manual and learn from there. Have any of you done this?

I just did. I bought my Z last Friday, never haven driven stick before. Couple of days in the Z and your cruising...

Ask any friends you have for some tips, read how to drive a manual car (google search)

Just takes some practice. You'll catch on so fast you won't regret getting the 6 speed, you'll only have trouble for the first couple of days.

your personal preference. if you think you'll like manual, go for it. I'd learn on a beater car first before you take the plunge. a week's worth of practice vs. picking it up and then realizing it's not your cup of tea.

oh yeah, my350z.com guys, please don't make this another AT vs. MT thread!!!

First of all --Dont make it into more than it is. But a manual will do nothing for u --Grab a friend (or someone)thats not a showoff and have him walk u thru it in ur new 350Z MANUAL----With in an hour u will have the jist of it, By the end of the day u will be feeling comfortable and by the end of the week u will really be getting the hang of it.

U have to do it sometime and there is no time like the present ----Its like not knowing how to swim ---Theres no excuse for not knowing how.

ok is there any risk of ruining or braking the tranny or engine?

I think i'll just get auto, how strong is the automatic on 350Z? Im currently driving an 04 accord V6 auto w/ intake, exhaust and a really bad TRANNY. I drive normal i dont push the car over its limit, i dunno honda auto V6 sucks they are so weak.

^^ just dont dump the clutch at high rpms and dont do frequent burnouts and your clutch should be okay... but it will probably happen so dont be too alarmed. learn to feather your clutch

No one has ever wished they got automatic. Only those whimsical moments in traffic.

If you are Jvanquish then an auto will suit you fine.

If you like using a clutch peddle and like visiting a Nissan service department, get a manual transmission Z.

Most 350Zs, G35s & Corvettes have A/T, so be different and get a M/T Z if you'd like.

lol ok i like how you guys are convincing me to get manual. The reason im trading in my accord auto is because of its really bad tranny, and i dont want to have the same or worst problem on a new car. Is it really true 350Z automatics is strong. I hit high RPM on my accord once in a while thats how the problem started.

Your making a mountain out of a molehill. Driving a stick ain't brain surgery.

You will have more fun with stick (though I'm not one to drill ya if you go auto).

It sounds like your not going MT out of fear of not knowing. Never a good way to decide.

I taught my son to drive an MT on my Nissan 350 Z. No damage to his psyche or the Z. Find some one to teach you. It will take 5 minutes for basics & a bunch of practice.

My 56 year old wife learned to drive my Z in 15 minutes. You can't compete with a 56 year old woman?

The Z would be easy to learn on. I learned on my WRX it was a PITA, because of the AWD you had to give a ton of gas get going and the clutch was alot stiffer.

I pretty much learned manual on my brand new Z. Of course I knew how to drive stick before from practicing here and there on other various cars, but the Z was the first car I've consistently drove stick in.

The 350Z clutch and transmission are very forgiving of mistakes. You will stall a couple of times, and miss a few gears, but no big deal. Go for it.
